what can isay that has not already been said.joyus lake was my introduction to pats music, just brilliant.its beyond the scope of human understanding how after his operation that he again is playing and giving himself to the world again.its the music born to the soul of the man and he just kept opening the door until one day it just walked back in and said ready for another round. well i am. and ihope every one goes out and gets something pat has recorded, sit back and feel this mans spirit in his music. god bless you pat martino

Dear Mr. Martino, Listening to your music inspires me tremendously to play the guitar. Listening to your chops makes me believe that music like yours comes straight from the soul and that your soul has a pipeline to the Godhead, thanks for sharing it with the us. Please play Montreal. Regards, Nick

Hi Pat, yesterday (september 16th 2003 )we've enjoyed your live act with the Jazz Orchestra of the Concertgebouw. In the seventies I overheard your records at the home of my drumteacher (Eric Ineke) and this is the first time I saw you play. We admire also your perseverance! Have a long and inspiring life!

Greetings to you for being such a great jazz guitarist, Pat! I'm a 21-year-old bassplayer from Sweden - I haven't heard all of your stuff, but last year we played Mac Tough on a few concerts with my band at the music academy I am currently attending - and I have to say; that tune is simply amazing! May life treat you as good as you treat music... /Linus

Pat , I'm so looking forward to the release of think tank. It was such an honor to have a sneak preview listen back in march of 2003 in Chicago. I so much love what you do on the guitar. It's great to know that everything is possible in music. Can not wait until you return to play in Chicago. Marco

Hi Pat, I was thinking about the concept of "sacred Geometry"...not so different that DNA, repeating themes in literature, struture of the atom, snow flakes. It seems to me that as a "rock" guitarist in my early days there were several patterns, basically four and from them you could make all the music that was necessary. Since I didn't have a clue about music theory I just played what sounded good from my basic patterns and slowly but surely I "stepped out" of the pattern a bit just using my ear. For "Jazz" I got "intellectual" and tried to understand which of many "scales" I needed to play over changes. As such, I lost the spotaneity and really pure fun of just playing as I was so busy thinking. Now I have gone back to using one scale (or cluster of tones as Jimmy would call them) and add some notes "outside" the cluster as my ear dictates. I am also experimenting playing with a percusionist (as opposed to a drummer) after hearing your CD with Tablas (Greta Stuff!) bass player and horn. Without a "chordal instrument" it leaves me free to play without worrying about being "harmonically correct". I no longer want to play "Jazz Standards" using a "jazz" format rather I want to play using a "Jazz Sensibility" that is to create, listen and converse with the other instruments. I am also playing much "slower" because I can't play that fast and leave space for the other players and I also have to listen. There are certain "patterns" that I love and have recreated all over the guitar and now I would say that in the past I was looking for "my sound" I would now say that I am looking for sounds that I love...and these sounds are part of a group effort. I really love to listen to Miles and Coltrane playing together. Over the years Miles notes became sparser and of longer duration...trane just went to someplace else...a whole other level...and as such they were so complementary...and Tony Williams, woah! Oh yeah, love is certainly the key...with all of its sharps and flats!!!!! Love, David

Thank you, Pat, for all the inspiration; and for sharing your insights about the nature of the guitar, that 'non-linear beast', as someone one a guitar newsgroup once called it. I am aware that we now regard as an 'avatar' what once was called a well-trained musician, and will therefore refrain from useless praise. But you being out there still sends hope to the serious struggler, and your music continues to be inspirational, and mindful of beauty. Safe travels, Nick.

Hello Pat. I saw you in person with Jack McDuff at Buffalo , New York's Pine Grilln - 1966. Talked briefly with you. We were the same age. I had just got out of the Air Force , to me you seemed to be this skinny little kid whom I was sure could not play at the needed level. Then - you took the stand. I've been trying to play at your level every since. Peace and Blessings

Dear Ohshima, I enjoyed your entry. To answer your question, the guitar is a Pat Martino model with a single pickup. Currently it's not available on the market. I'm not sure, but it might be available as a special order. Most likely you would have to contact Gibson thru your nearest dealer.
