Hi, Pat, and Hi, Joe,
(Great to talk to you on the phone, recently, Joe.) Still looking into finding a promoter to bring you guys to UK. I talked to Michael Cuscuna about my idea, and he thought it would be great. Still working on it, guys. I'll try leaning on a few people. The amazing Baden Powell is playing Ronnie Scott's in London in October. Unbelievable. And what's even more unbelievable is there hasn't been a breath of pre-publicity about it. I just can't understand it. What's the matter with everyone here? Another living legend and no-one seems bothered. What can we do? (Sure, the usual flock of London guitarists will all turn out. And I hope I can be there, too. (I am not a guitarist -- just a discerning listener). Can't wait to hear Baden Powell. If they are putting on the great BP at Ronnie's, why not the great PM? I'll ask about it. Oh, by the way, Pat -- I have come to the conclusion that your incredible Stone Blue album is THE album of the Millennium. I listen to it nearly every day. Forgive me for being so enthusiastic but your music is very important to me. Thank you for that album. Thank you for all your wonderful music. (My other favourite guitarists include Tal Farlow and John McLaughlin.) Best wishes.-- Chrissie, here in London xXx xXx

Pat, I enjoyed speaking with you between sets Sat.. Thanks for making your self so availble..personally/musically. I will be calling Bernie this week about coming up with a rewarding way to bring you back to NC. I believe that a couple of my contacts/colleagues in the medical field may be open to underwrittng a couple of performances.
Also I wanted to thank you for your sincerity and committment to what i like to call personal authenticity. It seems to me that artists whose goal is to really share their experiences, are on the wavelength that matters.

I was turned on to "We'll be together again" by a very hip guitar teacher at the age of 15 back in 1976. Since then I have gone through many changes both musically and spiritually and rediscovering this album (on CD) has been a great inspiration to me. My brother and I have been jamming on guitar and keyboards fairly consistently for the last eight years or so and "We'll be together again" has diffently re-charged our batteries! I hope to see in the NW soon and I'm bummed I missed the show in Oregon.
Thank you very much for the music.

Pat,
I fell in love with one of your early albums, El Hombre (1968?), years ago quite by accident and deemed you then among the greatest of jazz quitarists. To be quite truthful though, I'd sort of lost track of your career and situation until a couple of years ago. Since then I'd picked up a few of your albums including your most recent album. I checked into your site here and realized that I must see your show in NY in September, 1999.
I live in Rosendale, NY about 75 miles north on NYC and I had planned to see you at your show at the Blue Note in NYC on Sept. 16th. Then hurricane Floyd happened and I was confronted with the choice of bagging it (I had a flight to Chicago the next day and would thereafter be forced to miss the rest of your run in NYC) or heading 75 miles into the eye of the storm for no other reason than to see you. Fortunately, I made the right decision!
On the walk throught the torrent from my cousin's apartment in Chelsea to the BlueNote, we were drenched and had to stop at a laundry and disrobe to throw our clothes in the dryer. (This can only be done in Manhattan. Fortunately, I found two unmatched socks in the lost pile to warm me up during the wait!).
Anyway, we eventually made it to the show. I didn't even know that John Scofield, who I love, have four albums of and have seen twice before, was billed with you. He was great.
Then you came out.
My interest here is not to be pandering: I only mean to tell the world what they need to know: Pat Martino is the greatest! I've seen all the greatest guitarists; I've been a guitar aficionado and aspiring player for more than twenty years. Within seconds of your taking the stage, my jaw had literally dropped. And it only got better with every number.
It is a rare event to witness the pure revelation of the spark of life. I saw a flame that night. All with gracefulness. Your playing was unreal!
That crap about your surgery and your recovery (which, not to underplay the fact that you lived through it and it was a long road) is a pile of horseshit as far as I'm concerned. There is only one thing that matters: I've never heard anything that approaches your playing today and I can't imaging anything more excellent. The freaking media should stop treating you like some kind of charity case-you're walking on water as it is for god's sake! Show me anything close and I'd give them a break. In the mean time, they should just admit the truth- that there never has been one that shines so bright!
Thank you Pat, for your glorious contributions. Your gifts to the world are truely beautiful.
For anyone lucky enough with the opportunity to see Pat in concert, do yourself a favor and go.
Pat, I can't wait to see you again and hope you'll do NY again soon.
I wish you every joy in life.
Sincerely,
Jeff Graf

Pat -- Thanks for the wonderful time at The Blue Note last night!! We were thrilled to be able to hear your playing. It was truly a privelege to spend some time talking with you (and it was an added pleasure meeting Joe Pesci as well!). We had a safe roadtrip back home to Buffalo. My friend Walt will be calling you soon to stay in touch, and to try to arrange some lessons with you. Please let me know when you can make a trip back to Buffalo -- we would be honored to take you to my family's restaurant for dinner. Thanks again, and best wishes always. Tim Pezzino

I'm a 21-year-old guitarist and I am sad to say that I found the material of most guitar players rather uninspiring compared to the wealth of material out there from non-guitarists and composers, but I rediscovered Pat Martino recently and my head has been spinning. I guess I just wasn't ready for it until now.

Hi Pat,
You and John McLaughlin are my 2 favorite jazz guitarists.
Your music influenced me, I didn't try to emulate your style, your concepts and insights helped to enable me to develop my own unique style. I remember your diagram, showing the scale as a 12 pointed star, it made an imprint on my brain.
I will also make a big contribution to the future of guitar
music.
Have a happy eternity,

I arrived at this site thanks to a fine young local (Chicago-area)jazz guitarist, Peter Lerner. I've been a jazz lover since the mid-50's, particularly guitarists. I feel so stupid that up until now I missed your work. The only excuse I can muster is that the 60's,70's & 80's were kinda taken up raising a family of four offspring. It's time to make up for lost time!
Incidentally, Pete Lerner's website is www.lernermusic.com if you'd care to look in.
