I am in NY for a couple of days and I am totally excited about making both Birdland sets tomorrow night! We'll Be Together Again moves me every time I listen to it...I hope it will be released on CD soon - I have played the music right off the grooves of both album copies I own. Best of luck Pat. Keep creating and touching us all.

TO EVERYONE who's taken the time to just say hello and share some valuable feelings; let me say thank you from the bottom of my heart! Again and again, the same excitement takes place each time I notice something in my mailbox; I'm sure that in some ways it's the same for all of us; but when it's generated with specific interests in the Guitar itself; (like all of you have continuously made sure of) it remains as something that's very rewarding for me in a very personal way. I wish I had the time to answer all of the questions; as well as offer my response to each of your comments. There are times when I do; as I have in the past and will in the future; but unfortunately at the moment I don't. So, I hope that everyone remains patient about these things and continues to stay in touch. Once again,......... THANKS!
Pat Martino

Pat, thanks for the lessons and I'm reffering to all the beautiful music that you have shared with the world. I have been listening to you for about 24 years and you have been a major influence on my playing and just being a decent human being in general. Looking forward to much more from you. By the way, I was born on Aug 25 too if that's your correct birthday. Thanks, Brent

Dear Pat-I am the current president of the University of North Texas Guitar Club,we are very interested in having you as a clinician.I have seen aclinic of yours before at Berklee and met you two time prior to that.I believe you have much to offer our members here beyond just "hands-on" guitarskills.Your philosophies related to the correlation of music, life and spiritually would be an unequalled lesson here. The last clinic I saw changed my perspective on music forever.I am aware of your disdain for travelling, but feel that no one could offer as much as you could. We have a sufficient budget for clinicians and are willing to coordinate with your schedule and negotiate compensation.Once again,I hope that you will seriouslly consider our offer, and allow our members/students to be exposed to your wealth of spirituality and musicality. Thanks, Pat.

Hello Pat! We met in Minneapolis in 1976 when you played the Longhorn Lounge with the Joyous Lake band. I gave you an ink on paper portrait I'd done of you. You graciously honored my request and played some wonderful solo guitar. You have been a true motivational force in my life (and continue to be one.) Thank you so much for it all. Please find a way to release the computer based compositions I read about a couple of years ago.

Hiya Pat! I'm a saxophone-playing jazz studies major here at Bowling Green State University in Ohio, just south of Toledo. My best musical friend plays guitar and just started at Berklee, so I've always been hip to people like Wes and Grant Green. However, I first learned about you in the DB article with you and Les Paul earlier this year, 'cause I'd only heard of you before. I was very interested in your new project when I read about it in JazzTimes a little while ago. As soon as I get some green I'll pick it up. I'm eagerly awaiting hearing your duet with Charlie Hunter, who I think is one of the best and most original musicians around today.

I was fortunate enough to See Pat in several venues in the 70's. Was very pleased to meet and talk with him at the "Amazing Grace" in Chicago in 1977. Thank you for 30+ years of marvelous music. I have yet to hear a jazz guitarist who can get all the way through YOUR version of Sonny Stitts "Oleo". Was told by a friend you were coming back to Minneapolis Oct. 7th and 8th, I'll be there with friends and bells on Pat. It is so great to have you back!! "Jazz is not dead, it just smells funny" F. I have first heard your recordings in 1975 with Gil Goldstein & then your own group in 1976. I enjoyed your recordings of jazz standards on "EXIT" which I would recommend to any aspiring jazz guitarist. I understand of your brain seizure [which my monther-in-law also had] & your relearning of guitar by listening to your own records. I have not heard your new recordings. But you are on my list of top 3 jazz guitarists with Joe Pass and Pat Metheny. Good luck to you in all your future endeavors.

Pat: I really like your new album. It is a striking mix with a lot of great improv. The "Both Sides Now" recording (with Cassandra Wilson singing) is just plain beautiful. It would be great if the pop stations would pick it up and I could tell everybody I know about the cat on guitar! The first thing I thought when I heard the tune with you and Joe Satriani tune was "%$#% yeah"! I'm flying down from Seattle for your Santa Cruz gig next month... can't wait. Maybe you could sign my "All Sides Now" after the gig if you have time. Sincerely, Mike Archbold (left a message a few months back).

Hi, Pat - I studied with you twenty years ago in New York. Those sessions truly changed my life. Your music continues to inspire me - your CD's are my favorite study materials. Dear Pat, I was a student of yours in 1988 in South Philly. We had lessons for about 9 months, and we had many wonderful conversations; I remember them so well. At the time, I had just graduated from college with a degree in philosophy and was thinking of going into music. Trying to decide, I was going to go the the National Guitar Summer Workshop in Connecticut that summer; you were going to teach there, too, but a health problem prevented you. Do you remember me? Anyway, philosophy had a stronger pull on me than jazz and I have just completed my Ph.D. in philosophy at the University of Texas. I just wanted to say hello to you, let you know I was thinking of you, and tell you how pleased I have been with your recent releases. Great stuff! You and your music are inspiring forces--health, happiness, and peace to you. All the best, David Hildebrand hilde (at) uts.cc.utexas.edu

All set to talk to your answering machine, I was, so it was just amazing to me when you picked up the phone -- don't think I told you so, but I was just as shocked as you! Those few minutes of speaking with you meant a great deal to me. You are so present, so focused and in the moment, even when speaking to someone whose voice you have never heard before. While in Philadelphia I had the pleasure of buying your Blue Note CD, and also stopped by Jimmy's Water Ice to buy the little books written by Joe Bag-a-Donuts Sbaraglia (do you two know each other there in South Philly?). Read about the latter in a Philadelphia Inquirer article. No commitments made, nothing finalized, about relocating back East, so it remains to be seen what develops; just making the visit over the holiday was worthwhile. Your October dates at Birdland include my birthday, which I hope to observe by coming to New York and showing up for one of your shows. Promise, if I make it, I will walk up to you this time. My favorite music teacher lives up the Hudson River, and I have sent him a copy of your documentary video (Open Road) to introduce you to him. Hope to get him down to Birdland with me to hear you, although his is a busy life. Your interviews remind me of him at times -- like you, he inspires his students not just by what he does but also by what he is. That's enough for now. Have a wonderful time taking front and center stage this fall.

To see a brilliant point unfold from the pages of a magazine interview rarely opens me up like your's did. In turn that misplaced beacon taught me a little about the fretboard, true greatness(without actually ever having heard it), and pathos. I'm sure if anyone has ever heard the sound that God makes or the trees growing you have.
