Palm Harbor, FL USA - Tuesday, May 31, 2005 at 11:25:31 (EDT)I paid attention to a mention of your name on Delacamp.net and was glad I did. I have been exploring the relationship between diminished seven chords and five seven patterns, (giving me all twelve keys under my fingers within three frets) off and on for awhile now. I hope you don't mind if I mention your site when discussing this with freinds. This is the best stuff I've seen since George Van Epps.

Philly, USA - Wednesday, May 25, 2005 at 22:54:11 (EDT)Dear Pat,
I got the chance to finally see and meet you while you were here in Atlanta performing at Spivey Hall. What an amazing show. You've been a big influence on me for a while, but actually seeing the amazing things you do with a guitar really blew me away. But I think the biggest treat was getting to meet you after the gig. It's nice to see a legend be gracious and giving of his time to his fans. All in all, it was an evening my wife and I will never forget. (By the way, my drummer, Mike McGee, said to remind you to say hi to his friend Richard) Thanks for all of your great music. I can't wait for the new cd.
Take Care
Lloyd

Atlanta, ga USA - Wednesday, May 25, 2005 at 15:33:39 (EDT)Hi Pat, Just read the little excerpts from the Inquirer article. The reference to Thomas Merton reminds me of the TM I have on my shelf as a gift from Chuck that I wasn't really ready to read at the time. I will take another look. Reading your influences, etc. brings back a lot of good nostalgia from Philadelphia from around the early 90's. Hard times, but kind of rich in many ways, too. Chuck, my mother and a lot of that gang shared a rich openness and a searching for inner peace, even amidst the struggles of their lives. I learned a lot from them, and need to keep re-learning. I hope to get up there soon, but it's been while.....Hope you are well. Jeff

New Orleans, LA USA - Wednesday, May 25, 2005 at 12:45:54 (EDT)Hi Pat. well, what can I say, you are the man and your music transcends many bounderies. But why don't you ever play in Florida???? I guess it's just New York, Japan, L.A. and Philly. You know that South Florida is beautiful and we are starving for great jazz. Do we have a the plague? Wayne Shorter played on South Beach to a sold out delerious crowd and he made it out alive. Please consider South Florida, you will like what you see and hear. God Bless, Robert

Hollywood, fl USA - Wednesday, May 25, 2005 at 00:20:24 (EDT)Pat,
Ever since I saw you at Catalina's in Hollywood a couple of years ago, I have been working through Jorg Heuser's transcriptions of El Hombre. I think that I have collected every record/CD that I can lay my hands on of yours as well as videos! Could you tell me if the Gibson Pat Martino with the single pickup that they made was a one off only for you, and also what the color is of that guitar? Thanks! Jim in San Diego

San Diego, CA USA - Monday, May 23, 2005 at 22:18:20 (EDT)Hi Pat,
I recently have been using a nylon string classical guitar (Khono) and a Parker Fly Nylon and have discovered that I am thinking more "harmonically" and I am using my fingers instead of a pick. The nylon stings feel very smoothe and silky and kind of "relax" my mind so there is a "warmer" more pensive quality to my approach. The "dance" the right hand does requires a greater cnnection to the left hand due to the moving voices and subsequently the whole thing seems to have a more musical dance in that the archetecture needs to connect...this has had the effect of causing me to listen more closely and that has had the effect of my paying greater attention to the actual music as opposed to going on "automatic pilot", the thing that seems to happen after practicing scale patterns. It has been so much fun that I feel like a kid exploring new places...I've come to the conclusion that all things are possible IF you can focus in the moment at all times. I would love to hear you play your lines on a nylon stringed instrument with a cello player (Maybe Dave Darling)laying down the bottom, and a soprano sax. I would also love to have some of your art in the CD, perhaps a piece for each song. Actually, I wouldn't mind having an entire orchestra back up your compositions...if they could pull it off without being stiff.
Now, there's a wish list!
Love
David (aka Dr. Dave)

Elkins Park, PA USA - Monday, May 23, 2005 at 02:59:51 (EDT)Pat, Thaddeus again! You don't have to answer this, just an up date. Stayed with Dennis for about ten or twelve years off and on while on the road with various groups, couldn't make a living, went to college, majored in classical guitar, graduated and have been teaching high school music ever since. Didn't know Dennis had died until I ran into Trudy Pitts about a year ago. Don't know if you remember Eric Schulte the guitar maker, but he's not doing too good. Dennis is gone, so you're the man. I'm glad you're teaching. Thanks for all you've done for me. God bless you and yours forever.

Cherry Hill, NJ USA - Friday, May 20, 2005 at 11:06:42 (EDT)Dear Filip, ... Thank you so much for such a warm entry, it's a pleasure to hear from you. As to your question, the strings I use are made by La Bella, and can be found on their 20P JAZZ SERIES. My current guages are: E-15, B-17, G-24, D-32, A-42 and E-52. They're a little lighter; (in gauge) than what I've used in the past but have proven to be stronger as well as having less tension. Once again, it's a pleasure to meet, and I send you all my best wishes.

CHERRY HILL, NJ USA - Monday, May 16, 2005 at 14:09:15 (EDT)Hey, Pat, May 13 sound mix on main floor, seven rows back, seven seats left of center, was good. Your guitar tone was gorgeous and your volume was balanced with other instruments. Upright could have been a tad louder. Great concert! Thanks again

a2, MI USA - Monday, May 16, 2005 at 12:40:18 (EDT)Pat, It was great to see you in Detroit May 13. Unfortunately the mix was not good. I sat in the balcony and the piano and cymbols were louder than your guitar and the string bass could barely be heard. The first group had a good mix so I was wondering what happened. Your playing is excelent and should have been louder in the mix.

Royal Oak, Mi USA - Monday, May 16, 2005 at 10:17:38 (EDT)Dear Pat, Your amazing show in Detroit on Friday the 13th stole the thunder from the severe weather that seemed to roll in with you and your band. Am grateful to be lightning struck by your musicianship. I appreciate your gifts more now than when I first started listening to you in the mid 70s. I felt a great connection to brother Wes in your tribute, as well as to brother Jack. You are a great keeper of the Olympic flame known as Jazz. Thank you for sharing your marvelous talent, your determined persistence in growth and creativity, and helping evolve the jazz tradition! Continual blessings for you and yours!

Detroit, MI USA - Thursday, May 12, 2005 at 14:56:22 (EDT)Pat: Thank you for coming to Murfreesboro this weekend. My wife (who is not
a musician) and 2 daughters attended your clinic. We were all 'knocked out'
by your warm, sincere, and real presentation. Thank you! I am your age
and have been playing since I was 11 y/o...like you, my Dad made me sit with him every saturday morning and play accom. for his melodies. It brought us close. I have an autoimmune problem that affects the nerves in my left arm...and have not been able to play for 3 years...YOU have inspired me to pick up my guitar again...and at least try. I doesn't sound pretty, but through some of the things you have said and experiencing YOU as a person...I am motivated to
try. I just want you to know that you are having a positive effect in being who you are. Thank you. Sincerely...and with Love(really), Ed

USA - Thursday, May 05, 2005 at 10:34:51 (EDT)Mr. Martino, you are an inspiration to me and many others as well as a mistery as a guitarist. I'm really thinking a lot on what pick size or model you use, I also try to find out what grip works best for me. I personally use 2 or 3 grips and they all help but I want to stick with one for a while and i want to get an Idea of how your grip works. is your picking movement circular?
