Australia - Tuesday, May 25, 2004 at 22:40:44 (EDT)Dear Pat,
I am a 14 year old from Ottawa Ontario. I basically just wanted to tell you that I love your music and hope you come to Ottawa again soon. Unfortunately I missed you last July when you came to the Ottawa Jazz festival. I have been playing guitar for the last four years now and two of them have been spent learning Jazz guitar. I have been listening to you since I was born and will continue to enjoy and learn from your music.
P.S. I think the “Nature of the Guitar” link was a great idea

Ottawa , Ont Canada - Tuesday, May 25, 2004 at 17:45:26 (EDT)Dear Pat,
My wife and I had the privilege of of attending the Saturday night early show at Birdland. Sat front/center table and had a wonderful time. I really enjoyed watching you play as I rarely get the chance to actually see up close, given my visual impairment. Of course I've enjoyed listening for many years!
Thank you once again for a great night and I hope to see you at the Guitar Congress at Towson University. Be Well,
John

USA - Tuesday, May 18, 2004 at 08:29:08 (EDT)Pat, I studied with you for a year in the late '70s. I have been trying for months to get hold of you to have you look at a revolutionary guitar technique book I wrote (inspired by you and 'Trane) called "Sheets of Sound for Guitar" (www.sheetsofsound.net). Please email me (jaz (at) jackzucker.com) as I would love to get your comments on the book.
P.S.
I was the student who commissioned "Pat Martino", (by Tricia Paveso) and gave it to you as a gift.
Sincerely,
Jack A. Zucker

lagos, lagos nigeria - Thursday, May 13, 2004 at 16:50:17 (EDT)Dear Pat and family;
Many thanks to you for the kindness shown my daughter Dana. She called
me last week to say she would be your guest at one of your performances
in Phoenix. She had the best time and said it was the highlight of her life. She mentioned one of the songs you played was from "El Hombre" and I did say
I'm sure you did that especially for her...
She doesn't remember her Dad, Mitch Fine, as she was 4 when he died. She has
held on to the "El Hombre" album all these years. Has it ever been released on
a CD? I live close to Austin and my employer loves jazz and does play the
guitar. He told me he had purchased one of your guitars. Last summer he was able to have Eric Johnson come out here to perform for a children's advocacy
fundraiser.. Of course, I had visions of your coming this time...Do you ever perform in the Austin area?
Again, thank you Pat.
Sincerely, Llana

windhoeck, africa namibia - Wednesday, May 12, 2004 at 04:30:34 (EDT)Caught your show at the Civic Amphitheater last night. Finally, after all these years, I had the opportunity to see you live. A major musical event, to say the least. I can't imagine how you could have a better band! Thanks for extending your love, Pat. You are the real deal; and for at least the ninety minutes of your music, we experienced the real world; the one you offered us a glimpse of.

Las Vegas, NV USA - Monday, May 10, 2004 at 01:06:42 (EDT)I saw Pat perform at Clark County last night. I also had the great pleasure of meeting him before the performance and he signed a picture for me. Nothing can describe how wonderful it was to meet him after all the years I've listened to his music. His performance was incredible. His solos were so smooth and fluid, each were like a musical trip. He is definitely a fine wine. My thanks to Pat and all who keep this web site happening, its such a great vehicle for his fans and so very exciting.

padova, USA - Friday, May 07, 2004 at 09:52:09 (EDT)Hi Pat, Finally, after nearly forty years of waiting, I am going to be able to see you perform live (Rhythm Room - 5/7/04), and hopefully get to meet and talk to you. I first heard your playing on a Jack McDuff album (don't remember which one) in the early/middle 60's). No one has been a bigger promoter of Pat Martino and his music than I have - every since. You have been such a great inspiration to so many musicians that I have known in that time, not just guitar players. See you in Phoenix.

Tucson, AZ USA - Thursday, May 06, 2004 at 14:26:09 (EDT)Pat, I just learned that you will be playing at the Rythem Room here in Phoenix this Friday!! I would so love to see you in person and get the chance to meet someone that my father so admired. I am the daughter of Mitch Fine who played the drums with you on El Hombre. As you know, my father passed away shortly after the album was released. I was five years old at the time. What a treasure it is for me to have his music. I am going to try to obtain tickets if I am not to late (i'ts already Wed. and your to play on Fri.) If I don't get this opportunity then I will hope that you will be back soon. Fondly, Dana Fine-Nuno

New York, NY USA - Monday, May 03, 2004 at 12:52:13 (EDT)Dear Jean-Philippe, ..... It's a pleasure to meet you at such an early age; it gives us much more time to enjoy an everlasting friendship. I'm happy to hear you make some powerful decisions so soon; it seems the Guitar has begun to influence you in some very healthy ways. Continue, ..... I wish you all the best! As to your questions, ..... (1) Did you learn by yourself or did you take some courses? ...
I think it's impossible to totally learn without interacting with others. In the beginning I intended to study the guitar with a few serious teachers and fortunately it led me to a deeper study of the teachers themselves; (as people). The guitar itself was unfolding its secrets to me in the midst of an endless playful enjoyment; as it still does. (2) Do you improvise with scales or with the chords tones? ...
Music to me; (especially Jazz) is similar to the experience of different kinds of food. When I taste something that pleases me; (not only in taste but also in nutrition) I choose for it to remain on my menu. I then try different combinations of the enjoyments I've collected. That's how I improvise; both with melodies and harmonies, and they continuously change in very subtle ways. (3) Do you use chord solos? ...
I sometimes really enjoy chord solos when I'm alone with the instrument. But in performance I tend to participate more like a "horn player"; (maybe because my first serious jazz influence came from a recording by Donald Byrd & Gigi Gryce: "Jazz Lab"). Finally, I do hope to perform in Montreal sometime in the future; the last time was at Festival International de Jazz de Montreal; in June, 2002. Hopefully when it comes about, we'll meet. Until then I send you my best wishes!
Pat Martino
USA - Monday, May 03, 2004 at 07:18:26 (EDT)Hi Pat!
I'm just 13 years old and I already know your music. I firstly speak French then I'll try to write correctly! I begin to play guitar since 4 years and I started to play Jazz last year. I love your music. I plan to go to college in Jazz guitar and at the Montreal university in Jazz guitar too. I'm in secondary 2 in the Stage Band. I have a good teacher who did collegial studies in classical and jazz guitar and university in classical guitar. I have some questions. Did you learn by yourself or did you take some courses? Do you improvise with scales or with the chords tones? Do you use chord solos? Will you come to Montreal in a near future? I would like to see you live.
