BEEN AN AVID FAN AND PROMOTER OF PAT MARTINO SINCE HE CAME ON THE "SCENE" IN THE EARLY SIXTIES. I AM 64 YEARS OLD AND HAVE BEEN PLAYING THE GUITAR SINCE I WAS 9. I'VE PLAYED WITH SEVERAL ORGAN TRIOS IN THE PAST, MOSTLY AROUND THE MIDWEST AND IN TORONTO, CANADA. RETIRED FROM PLAYING PROFESSIONALLY IN 1974. WAS THE LATE GUITARIST BILLY ROGERS' FIRST TEACHER/HELPER. MET BILLY IN OMAHA WHEN HE WAS 15 YEARS OLD AND JUST STARTING TO PLAY GUITAR. TURNED HIM ON TO PAT MARTINO RIGHT AWAY. HAVE DONE SO WITH MANY, MANY OTHER GUITARISTS AND MUSICIANS THROUGHOUT ALL THESE YEARS. HAVE NEARLY EVERYTHING HE HAS EVER RECORDED IN MY COLLECTION. I'VE NEVER BEEN ABLE TO BE WHERE I COULD SEE AND HEAR PAT PLAY AND MEET HIM IN PERSON. WOULD STILL LOVE TO! HE IS THE GREATEST GUITARIST THERE HAS EVER BEEN ON THIS PLANET AS FAR AS I AM CONCERNED AND I HAVE HEARD THEM ALL AND MET AND KNOWN QUITE A FEW OF THEM INCLUDING JIM HALL AND JOE PASS. HOPE HE GOES ON FOREVER!

Hi Pat, I'm a young Jazz guitarist from England currently studying music at college. Having been playing for the last nine or ten years and wanting to develop my playing to the next stage, particularly with soloing, I was wandering if I could have your opinion on what generally makes a 'quality' solo? Secondly, any chance you'll be playing in the country sometime? Let me know if so (I actually know the Jazz guitarist Phil Lee who saw you a little while back and spoke very highly of you). Anyway, keep up this astonishing stuff.
Cheers,
Lee Jones

Hi Pat, I had the pleasure of seeing and hearing you last week at the Blue Note while on a short trip to Las Vegas (from the UK). I hadn't heard your music before but was quite swept away - inspirational. The only sad note is that the CD I purchased after the show is a faulty one, so I can't yet listen to Live at Yoshi's. I will however be looking out for your next tour to England.
With kind regards - David Barnard

Pat, Being A Jazz Lover and Guitar Player, You are my Inspiration.
When I describe your playing to other people, I always say, Pat Plays
the guitar like Wayne Shorter and John Coltrane play the sax..When you come
out of the melody and go into the solo, it reminds me of a
lion being let out of a cage. Thank you so much for your music and your spirit.
Each time I listen to one of your recordings and then go to a gig, it always makes me play better.

Thank you for the great concert at the Dakota Club. The performance by you and your group was superb with much musical excitement and surprises along with passion. Words can't describe.
Thank you for allowing me to be your guest at your seminar at Music Tech. You are a great teacher also.
Most of all, thank you for your kindness and your willingness to listen as well as communicate. This compliments your great talent.

Mr. Martino :
I had the honor to see you play in Vegas. Your show was nothing less than spectacular. It was a shame that certain "loud mouth people" had to put a minor dampener on your 1st set.
I was the guy that asked you about any downloads off of the internet that I could find. So if you or anyone else knows of any please let me know.
God bless

Hi Pat!
I'd like to hear some of your thoughts on Hank Garland. You have so much in common. I'm a family friend and have listened to Hank all my life.
Email if you can, and visit Hank's site at www.hankgarland.com and drop him a note. Thanks for the brilliant work, and thanks for the "Pat Martino Custom Shop Gibson!" Don't tell Hank, but I think I've found a guitar I like better than "the Byrd."

Hello Pat
It's already March 19th, and I saw you in Seattle on Feb 24th. Where does the time go?
Thanks for being so gracious and talking to me as well as signing my album cover. I had a million things to ask you and everything just left my brain the minute I was standing in front of you. I felt like a schoolboy trying to talk to the prettiest girl in class.
I do have one question. Your biography says that after your aneurysm you were able to make a full recovery, reverse your memory lose and return to form on your instrument. My question is did you have to learn or re-learn everything about yourself, or did your past memories come back to you? Not your guitar memories, but your every day memories. Your hopes, your dreams, your loves and loved ones.
I wish I could purchase a piece of the peace within you as easily as buying one of your recordings.
Thanks Again

Thouroughly enjoyed your jam at Catalina's on 3/16, AND the clinic in Sherman Oaks the next day. As much as my wife and I were impressed and entertained by your set, I found your clinic to be most impiring, as well as entertaining.
I am spreading the word to my New York friends and family to catch you at The Blue Note in June. I hope you do indeed get some of your improvisation and practice gems down in book form.
Thanks for re-introducing me to the guitar, and deepening my appreciation for Jazz.

I first discovered Pat Martino's thrilling guitar style in 1975 when I was a teenager, in a small record shop while vacationing in a God forsaken Caribbean Island. All my friends and I just listened to rock n roll, as most teens of the times did. I had never heard of Pat before, but something in the LP cover caught my attention, a wierd looking jazz guitar and Pat's deep gaze. I did not get to listen to the music in the record untill I got back home, and that was it I became an instant fan. Pat is in my belief, the most powerfull and resourcefull of all jazz guitar players out there.
Keep it up Pat, we are all listening (our jaws hanging low).

Congratulations, Pat on your Grammy nominations. Not only are they a testament to your hard work and talent, as high profile recognition in a tough, tough industry, they serve as proof to our young people that dedication has many, many rewards.
Personally, I am inspired by your battle back to practice your art. Your story reminds me that acheivement is all about will - and faith in one's self.
Keep the music playing for all of us, my Brother. And God bless you.

Hello Pat,
also congratulations from me for the Grammy nominations.
I will be in NYC from the 26th of march. I ve heard about
the workshop at the University of the arts Philadelphia
for the students on March 27. Is it possible for me to be to be there as well, just listening or is it only for the students of the University?
I will be in America for 10 Days. My Dream would come true if i could get a private lesson from You in that time. If Your time table will make it possible.
best wishes from Germany,

Let me know your address.

Way to go, Pat! Like the last few signatories of your guest book, I was directed to your site through the Italian American One Voice group. As an Italian-American, I am very proud of your being nominated for two Grammys. We need more recognition, as a group, for our artistic contributions in the U.S. People such as yourself get us that recognition. Thanks, Pat!

I started listening to you back in your "Prestige" days but when I heard "Conciousness", I flipped! I still play that album regularly. Love it! I also love "Joyous Lake" but have had problems getting at it here in Canada. I would be interested to know what guitar(s) you played on these recordings and.. What exactly is that sound on Joyous Lake that sounds like some sort of "Spanish Mickey Mouse on speed"? (sorry.. ha! Can't think of another way to put it)
"Live at Yoshi's" is brilliant. Thank you for sharing your talent & creativity.

AT THAT TIME WHATi WAS SEEING EVERY THING DOUBLE i HAD MY COLLINGS GUITAR WITH ME AND HESAID oH i PLAY A COLLINGS ALSO
HE PUT APATCH OVER ONE OF MY EYES AND HAD ME PLAY. THAT WAS A TURNING POINT FOR ME i'M BACK PLAYING IN MY ACOUSTIC BLUES TRIO AND FOLWING YOUR MUSIC AND MUSIC THERAPY i THINK IT WAS A BIG FACTOR IN RECOVERING FROM 5 STROKES.I'M HOPING i CAN MEET YOU WHEN YOU DO YOUR SHOW AT THE dAKOTA.IN MARCH

What a wonderful set last night at the Jazz Showcase in Chicago! Thank You, Thank you, Thank you! I was very pleased to meet you, and was charmed at the genuine warmth you showed that youngster who was admiring your guitar. I've found that the true virtuosos are "nice guys", And you follow that example. This group is the purest expression I've heard of the "organ/guitar trio". Thanks again, and come back to the Windy city soon!
