Dear Mr. Martino, I would like to congratulate you on your 1997 "SONGS FROM THE HEART" award. Having been a fan long before my wife started working on her MME in Music therapy here at KU, I am glad to know that music therapy will be associated with someone as credible and influential as you. Music therapy is such an intangible field, yet one that plays such a vital role in all of our lives (whether we know it or not), and I believe that an association with you will only lend proof for those that need it. I love the ne w 32 Jazz releases, so keep up the good work, and we will keep an ear out for you in the future!! Chester Lawrence, Ks USA 3-39-98

Pat - Let me just say you have always been an inspiration to me. I saw you many years ago in Harford, CT (Bushnell park concert) and I'll never forget it. It's hard to properly describe what kind of an impact your music had on my life at the time - suffice it to say I'm thankful just to be able to express my gratitude in this short note. I hope your future pursuits bring you success, happiness and peace.

Pat, I'm a long time fan. You, Joe Pass (the late), Jim Hall and Jerry Hahn are among my favorite guitarists. Pat are you familiar with Jerry Hahn, recoreded years ago with John Handy? I just got your cd, cant remember the name offhand, but features you with other guitarists on each track. Especially liked the one's with Kevin Eubanks, Joe Satriani and Tuck Andres. From that cd do you have a favorite track? Do you have a teaching video out or an instruction book? I would love to purchase a copy. Finally WHEN will you be in the Dallas/Ft. Worth Texas area........ please tell your Texas fan's it will be soon. Wishing you and your family the best of health....... Thanks for being such a great inspiration to all........ Regards, Michael

When I first came accross this site I left a message for Pat, less than a week later I went to see him at the Blue Note and on that occasion he told me he had gotten my message so sorry pal he does read, respond etc to this guestbook which is maintaine d as are the websites of other great musicians by people who can constantly update when a musician has a hectic recording and touring schedule, finally to "You Fools" - funny you should refer to whether or not it was Pat who signed it when you hadn't the cojones (I think that's it should be spelled) to leave your name & email address, this guestbook is a chance for musicians from all over the world to express their appreciation and make contact with Pat, if you can't add - don't subtract David O'Rourke

Dear Pat,I met you at Birdland last Nov. and was very fortunate to have a brief chat with you. I have been listening to you for over 30 yrs. and you are , along with wes Montgomery, my favorite guitar player. I especially liked the organ genre and wo uld like to find a copy of the one you did with Don Patterson and Huston Person, I believe it is called Dimensions four, I lent it to somebody and it was never returned to me. Are you going to do any more recordings in that bag, I also liked your record ings with Trudy Pitts. I am so happy that so many great things are happening in your life for you deserve only the best that life has to offer. I understand you are now married, congradulations, for everything always happens for the best and your marria ge might just be the result, or the gift that so very much deserve. I hope to see you soon, God Bless you & your wife, & Love, Peace, Health, & Happiness! Yours in Christ, Brother Mike

Dear Pat, I know there's a good chance that you don't remember me but I took a lesson from you in September of '97 . It was certainly an experience that has occupied my thoughts quite frequently. I know I would like to study with you again but i want to wait until I have a more thorough understanding of the 12 point star. Every time I look at it I see something knew or see how it relates to something else such as the four seasons each lasting approximately three months. 4x3 just like the guitar. Any way I will try to write you again when I can use somebody elses computer. But again, Thanks for the good feelings that you've drawn out of me both in your music and in person. In response; let me apologize to everyone for not having enough time to answer every addition to my "guestbook"; I'm sure that all of you understand; furthermore, ... Jack, thanks for stepping in and offering your comment. As to my feelings about the message addressed "You Fools", let me say this ....... : I DO READ THIS guestbook ON A DAILY BASIS; (when I'm at home) AND AS ALWAYS, WHEN THE TIME IS RIGHT... I ANSWER AS MUCH AS I POSSIBLY CAN; ALWAYS IN THE FORM OF IMPROVISATION. TH AT'S REAL JAZZ! I also think that it's very natural to be disappointed at times; due to the lack of patience; or an out & out expectation; ....... that is'nt JAZZ; but it does lead us to it every time. More than anything I always appreciate your letters; ....... THANKS!............... (P.S. : There are no groupies as far as I know)

Just a comment. This webpage IS the Official Pat Martino Website endorsed by, contributed to, co-designed by Pat himself. If you were to check the archived months, you would see that Pat does answer many of the questions posted and interjects comments when he has the time. Currently Pat is finishing up his newest recording and hasn't had time to respond as much as he would like. Please don't let this guestbook become a "playground". We/you should feel fortunate, as does Pat, to be able to communicate using the web. Thanks

Pat, I noticed that you are going to be doing a tribute to the blues at Columbia U. next month. I commented to a friend the other day that it seems to me that blues and jazz were increasingly being grouped together, which seems odd to me because I picture the two styles to be fundamentally different even though there is some overlap. I try to picture John Lee Hooker doing "Impressions" or Pat Martino with "Five long years I worked for one woman!" Seriously, I know labels are difficult to apply and it doesn't matter so long as the result is good. Perhaps at some point you can explain your philosophy of the blues in jazz. Also, I found a mint copy of "Joyous Lake" and after I got over the shock of hearing you solo in the BRIDGE (?) pickup I really dug it and fusioned it up over the weekend! I'm looking forward to the reunion record! Thanks!

I've been waiting a long time for "We'll Be Together Again" to come out on CD for a long time. I bought to Vinyl copies when I lived in Ireland (I had to go to London to get them!) They were pressed on very thin vinyl and I ended up taping the second c opy which played perfectly. It is a great example of an artist revealing his personal side through the music and what a beautiful full sound from the guitar. Gil Goldsteins beautiful accompaniment on the Rhodes lays a beautiful carpet for your improvisati on. All the Ballads knock me out as do the originals capped off by your beautiful poetry on the liner notes. This record had a deep effect on the way that I play. I count the days until it's CD release. David.

Pat, I went to your concert in early April 1977 in an old run down theatre in Edwardsville Ill. It was what must have been the Joyous Lake tour (same guys as on the album). You also went way back and played some older stuff. You were using the solidb ody Gibson and began the evening with the most beautiful version of Wayne Shorter's "Fall." I will never forget that night. Sounded even cleaner than your recordings!! Please come to St. Louis. Best, Bruce

I first heard your recordings around the time of Starbright and Conciousness. Over the years I haven't kept abreast of a lot of jazz artists I used to like, but recently started playing guitar again and listening to my old recordings. Having only the 2 releases by you I did some digging on the Internet and found your site, and realized how much I'd missed. Today I was pleased to find rereleases of your early works and picked up a bunch of them including Footprints, El Hombre, Desperado, Strings! and Live!. I've been sitting here mesmerized as I play them. Now that I've caught up a bit, I'll definitely be checking out your more current releases. Cheers, Jim

Pat, I'm a late convert to CDs, so I was thrilled to just pick up Footprints and one CD with Consciousness and Live together. I've been listening to you since 1974, when I a friend fortunately put on the Muse Footprints LP. Forever after Footprints, Consciousness, Live, and WBTA are happily imprinted in my brain. I'm thrilled to see your website and am touched to be able to communicate with you. I'd like to sincerely thank you for the joy your music has brought to my life. I look forward to initiating my 8 and 5 year old children to the wonders of your recordings. Believe me, they will be dancing joyously to the strains of 'Sunny', 'Roadsong' just to mention two of my favs. Back when I was able to pick my own Login ID on my company's computer, I was known as 'Roadsong' with password 'Willow'. I've always hoped to be able to see you perform, so I'm thrilled to see you'll be in Delaware, which is close to the Washington DC area, where I live. Hope to see you there! I'm also looking forward to checking out some of your more recent work. you at the festival in Delaware

Dear Pat, Jack asked us to comment re "We'll Be Together Again." As I've mentioned before I was a student of yours back in 1979 or 1980, and it is safe for me to say you are one of my main inspirations for playing guitar and specifically jazz. I got every album that I could get my hands on with you on it, including my personal obscure favorite, "Introducing Bobby Pierce," which a friend of mine found in a K-Mart in Lubbock, TX for 50 cents. I think I brought it out to show you when you gave a seminar in Butler, PA back in 1977. Anyway, I *love* "We'll Be Together Again." You are most often lauded for your chops of steel, but I've always appreciated your tender approach to ballads as well. This record sustains such a mood of beauty and passion, and I have often lamented that I only have my scratchy vinyl copy to listen to. Nonetheless, I sometimes pull out this album and some others I have and put 'em on the turntable. The album covers, the analog sound, and even the smell bring back a flood of wonderful memories of my early infatuation with improvised music. I've been waiting for the re-release of WBTA on cd for a long time. Continued success, Clay Moore

I love your videos and the insight helps to unlock the labrynth of the instrument we love. I have noticed that you use notes on strong beats that can confuse the quality of the chord of the moment . For example: G7 with a C. I don't expect a reply. Thi s is just an observation.
