Pat: Thanks again - for "Live at Yoshi's." I will "virtually" wear this CD out (like I've worn all of your vinyl out over the years). Please release more live stuff from this trio! ( I finally bought all of the reissues on CD and have retired my Pat Martino vinyl.)
sincerely

Aloha;
It is fitting that such an outstanding guitar player has such a cool web-site! I've been a fan for many years but still haven't had the opportunity to see you play live :-( Any chance you'll be coming out to Hawaii anytime soon?

Live at Yoshis is just blowing me away. The music is running through my head even when the CD player is off and I'm just tapping my foot away! Can somebody please tell me how Joey handled the walking bass lines on these sessions? At first I thought they HAD to be sequenced and perhaps pedal activated. But the more I listen to "Catch" I'm not sure... It's as if there is a bass player right there, listening to the others and reacting musically... How DOES he do that? What an amazing session. Thanks for more great music!

Hi Pat, your video quantum guitar is very in depth. Is it safe to say that all of the multiple substitutions work because they share the chord tones of a 3rd and a flat 7th and the other notes are what make up the extensions? Then by using my ear i could construct my own lines using the notes that tie all the subtitutions together. Is this on the right track? Thank you for your music.

Just picked up Live at Yoshi's! Here's my review posted on the Bands/Artists board at Guitar.com:
Just picked up Pat's latest release yesterday. Pat's ensemble for this gig was a trio, Pat on Guitar, Billy Hart on Drums and Joey DeFranceso on Hammand B3.
Pat, like sushi, isn't for everyone... But people who eat sushi know what everyone else is missing and generally can't get enough of the stuff!
The performance on Live at Yoshi's is like eating a spicy tuna roll and getting a little too much wasabi. The session is HOT HOT HOT and it takes your breath away!
You like jazz and listening to virtuoso performances? Pick up Live at Yoshi's! It's delicious and nutritious.
... an order of salmon rolls, tempura rolls, and an order of cucumber rolls please!

Dear Mr. Martino, I was doing some research on Music Therapy for my 9 1/2 year old son and I saw that you had a brain aneurysm. I am sorry you had to go through that. My son has brain damage from a virus I had when I was pregnat with him. He also has seizures, fed only through a feeding tube, non-verbal, developmentally delayed, in a wheelchair, on monitors because he stops breathing while sleeping. My husband and I want what is best for Cameron and we are hoping that music therapy might help him. We need to find the resource to help us pay for it but we will try to do what we can. Everything is a battle and nothing is handed to you. We had to buy a new van that we cannot even afford but how are we suppose to transport our son in his wheelchair? We have been battling our local School District because they don't want my son in their schools. Why? Because he has special needs. He only goes for 6 hours a week and I go with him. He loves the other children and he is passing all his goals. Discrimination is powerful and so sad. I would love to hear your music sometime. Sorry to ramble you just seem like you would be a very sensitive person. I wish you much success. You can see my living Angel on our web site. Best Wishes to you, Michele and family

Pat, great look for your new website. As a student of Tai
Chi and the guitar, I find your Nature of Guitar pages
fascinating. Last year, I picked up two volumes by Joseph
Schillinger on mathematics and music. They contain
mathematical formulas for everything from rhythm, to scale
formations, harmony and orchestration. I hope to develop
an application to jazz improvization using some of
Schillinger's ideas.

Dear Pat, congratualtions on"Live at Yoshi's." You sound better than ever! For quite some time I've been looking at your diagrams in a confused manner, searching for an answer.I think now I see that guitar and it's form have many mathematical, historical and even biological paralells. These numbers that seem crop up in many cultural, religious, and physical contexts, come from within us. ten fingers=ten digits, twelve notes, months, apostles, etc. I can find a biological paralell for nearly all significant numbers(3,7,10,12,13). With our great capacitiy for association,we can get at the roots of symbolism,or to me,meanings.I hope I'm close to the mark. These meanings help me to attach emotion and concrete ideas to music. Thanks for helping me to find these concepts of expression, directly influenced by you. Now...if I could only learn how to play!!!!!!Lee Stuart

Dear Pat Martino: You might remember me from February 26th, 2000. I just purchased the cd release of yourself on the Late Brother Jack Mcduff,s "Brotherly Love"---fantastic! Brother Jack is from my hometown of Champaign/Urbana, Illinois, and when he was visiting family he used to play some gigs there. I managed to always catch them. A wonderful player. I'm still working ( and probably always will be ) on the BluePrint lessons...mindboggling...I've had to change my way of thinking improvisation...but what a reward when I finally get it right! Also, I'm a proud owner of the Pat Martino Custom guitar, and it's the best guitar I've ever had. Plays great, like no other ...just like it's namesake!! I'll try to catch you at Jacksonville, Florida, when you are the Artist in residence there. Until then, God Bless you and yours. I eagerly await the release of "Yoshi's".

I am very please you are coming to England in July and will try and get to the Pizza Express! I am a great fan of Wes of course and the great triumvirate of Wes, George and yourself. The key for me is not just technique, which scale ect. etc. but time! No one rides the beat the way you all do. Playing at 300 bpm is one thing, but 'it don't mean an thing.......'?

Dear Pat: Patiently waiting your new release. Advance ordered it from internet retailer. Have avoided promo copies that have been available on eBay and other places. Purchasing legit means you get credit and get paid. Buying promos seems like stealing from both seller and purchaser perspectives. Respecting your artistic expression and position helps me keep mine. Thank you for your great artistry over many years. Best regards to you and yours. Fritz

Mr. Martino's music is a form of prayer, of dance, of spiritual lovemaking, of powerful realized emotion captured in the archetecture of sound and notes. To marvel at his technical ability is a joy...but it is a wee, small, part of the poetry. His music is but a glimpse into the soul of what is possible in all of us. This glimpse allows each of us to know beyond doubt that we can aspire and grow to what in our hearts we know is possible. We can not deny after listening to Mr. Martino that much more is possible on our journey...and the journey is worthwhile if we have the heart, courage, tenacity, conviction, and love. Music is a glimpse into the possible. Mr. Martino's music is a glimpse into ourselves. That is why we love him. We see in him what we aspire to do, be, become.
Thank you Mr. Martino

Pat, I am a huge fan and jazz/blues guitartist in the Washington DC area. I am a good friend of Mantis and he got me a pre-release of LIVE at Yoshi's. WOW. I have used this CD for a study tool and my playing has significantly improved. Joey D is doing a gig with me at Blues Alley in Georgetown DC on July 30, 2001 and he says nothing but excellent things about you and your playing. Keep up the good work and you are truly an inspiration to a guy like me who is moving up the ladder quickly. Sincerly, Rick Wurzbacher

My friends were getting sick of hearing me talk about this remarkable LP, "Joyous Lake" that I used to own but wore out a number of years ago.
With the release of "First Light," they no longer have to listen to me talk about this extraordinary album! They at last understand the fuss I made all these years.
In a broader sense, the diversity of your recordings continues for me to be a source of a pleasure that I cannot communicate with words.
Thanks for ALL of the great music!
Continued success and happiness.

Hi Pat
I'm a 17 years old guitar student and I just got your videos, creative force. Those are the best instructional videos i've seen. There's only 1 question i asked myself: which minor scale do you use over diminished chords.
Thank you

Dear Josh, I'm sorry that you've failed to supply your e-mail address along with the message you've left in the Guestbook. I'd be happy to take the time out to share with you; as I have with so many others the details of these
"blueprints"; (the results of 40 years of experience with the instrument). I agree that they are a bit different when compared with the norm; in wonderful ways. I hope that we cross paths at some point. I send you my best wishes!

The "nature of the guitar" doesn't appear useful or relevant. I wish there was some elaboration on exactly what these diagrams reveal about guitar/music.
