Dear Pat, As always it was great to see you at your gig Saturday night at The Iridium. You know when I think of the first time I ever saw you in Central Park at The Guitar Explosion (1972) I thought then as I think now that you are the best! When I think of everything you have been through to rebound as still the best, I have a new name for you "Superman", and I mean that in all aspects besides guitar. I'm convinced that it takes a very special person to be the way you are, a man's man and a guitar players guitar player. Besides being one of my major influences on guitar for 30 years or so,I think the world of you and am very proud of you. God Bless and I'll talk to you soon. Your pal always, Rob

Dear Pat, I was just visiting your site this morning for the first time in a few months. I then shared an hour long reverie with my wife, of El Hombre as my first guitar album, seeing you at Grendel's Lair on South Street in Philly numerous times in the early seventies, to the privilege of taking guitar instruction from you for an all too short time when you lived in on Hamilton in Powelton village, and the many ways the "lessons" have touched my life beyond the phenomenon of music, and playing the guitar. She remarked, "I wonder if he ever gets to this part of the country"? So, I looked up your itinerary, and with synchronicity borne of a life sailing the Great Stream, you will be in our "backyard" so to speak this time next week. I am reminded of the ancient quote, "When the time is right, the master comes". ;-) I do not expect you to remember me through the years and the twists of the road. I am one among many. I simply want to say, Thank you! Thank you or the music. Thank you for the discussions far afield of notes on a page; for copies of “The Master Game” and “Metaphysical meditations” by Yogananda – powerful stepping stones to this (then) 17 year old; and for the introduction to a method of seeing life through the paradigm of music, understanding spontaneity therein as Jazz, and the guitar as a discipline, toward the eternal goal of Self. Namaste, Cliff Pollick I look forward to seeing you perform again next Sunday (1/30/05) at Dimitriou’s Jazz Alley in Seattle.

The pentatonic scale as I see it is either Gb major pentatonic or Eb minor pentatonic. The definitions for the major pentatonic is whole step, whole step, step & 1/2, whole step. For Gb major pentatonic that translates to Gb, Ab, Bb, Db, Eb. The minor pentatonic is step & 1/2, whole step, whole step, step & 1/2. For Eb minor pentatonic that translates to Eb, Gb, Ab, Bb, Db. The minor pentatonic is relative to the major pentatonic in the same way that the relative minor is to its relative major. I hope to hear you play at Iridium in New York on 1/20/05

Hi Pat, Looking forward to your visit to Jazz Alley in Seattle! Hope to attend on a couple of nights. You have been a real role model to me ever since I got the Desperado album. We are really enjoying the expanded Nature of the Guitar section. It's full of really great ideas that could be utilized by all musicians. I believe you should really organize this as a written book and library as an alternative music theory concept. George Russell really changed some ideas with his Lydian Chromatic Concept. You might even consider writing a beginners/intermediate guitar method book to compliment the old ideas but expose young minds to more than the old standard books we all used (Mel Bay etc.). It’s been the talk of our group at work! But, we humbly must point out that there is a “typo” on page 1. The Pentatonic scale shown as outlined is the Eb Major Pentatonic not Db. It's very important and cool because it shows the bluesy altered dominant effect of the chord substitution “I vs. flat III” that your playing is so full of! You 'da Man Pat! Saving up for a Gibson Pat Martino model guitar!!! Thanks again, Rolf Johnson

Hello M. Martino, I would like to thank you for you performance at Chris'Jazz Cafe in Philadelphia on the 30th of january. I Hope that I shaking your hand didn't affect your incredible guitar abilities. I wish you could have explained to me the nature of guitar, I do not feel that good at ease with it. Jean michel Huard told me to wish you an happy new year. Thank you once again.

I'm a self-taught player who is constantly trying to wrap my brain around new techniques and concepts in music and, specifically, the guitar. I first heard of your book "The Nature of the Guitar" in Guitar Player magazine but I lost the issue. Who better to learn from than Pat Martino, one of Jazz's greatest player and music theorists. Where can I buy this book?

You have a lot of fan here in france, and we all think it would be great to hear you live more often, specialy here in the south of france, you can find a lot of places whith great jazz festivals in the summer : Juan les Pins, Avignon, Nice to name a few ... You could even consider a master class (I'm sure you would get like a 2 million inscriptions ...)

Although I'm 54 years old, I'd never been aware of Pat Martino until after I had become a devoted listener of the "Forever Cool" internet radio broadcasts. To me, these streaming audio broadcasts are an invaluable aid for introduction to music I had missed or neglected due to my focus on other musical forms. (Heck, in my youth I was a rock n roller and any kind of jazz was beyond my understanding. Thankfully, my musical tastes have matured.) After hearing several selections of Pat's music on Forever Cool, I bought "Live at Yoshi's", a purchase which gives me much pleasure. Thanks, Forever Cool, to "turning me on" to a master!

Great site! I first saw Pat in 1975 at Berklee. He had a band that shook the then new Berklee performance center like a slipper in a dogs mouth. I have seen him every opportunity since and own ALL of his available releases. I must also say, having met him, he comes across as an unusually gracious and kind person. We are all SO GLAD he is back! You can see a pic of Pat from that Berklee performance on my website under "pics'. To see: go to : charliex.org

Best wishes in the new year 2005 to a great American artist and source of inspiration to players, non-players and all music lovers alike. I note Pat's graciousness in talking with two young boys, 12-year-olds, before his Blues Alley set (3-04) in D.C. last year. Both boys have started to play, and Pat was warm and interested in them before his show in the room. What a gentleman. The boys still talk about the day they shook hands with Pat Martino.

Pat -- do you know of anyplace I can get a copy of Firedance? Amazon is out, as is just about everyone else. I heard this from Tom Coale on G-strings, and I host jazz shows on a public radio station in Portland, Oregon, and would love to play it, but cannot find it. Thanks. Stephen Hendricks
