Pat, Thanks for sharing a moment with me prior to your smoking, scorching, ripping set Sunday night. I never know quite what to say to a celebrity... you've already heard so many times... I guess in a sort of way it doesn't matter if they give you a Grammy. By that I mean: those of us who have followed you all these years, from your chill-up-the-spine work on "Exit," the solos on "We'll Be Together Again," the astonishing set I heard at Santa Cruz in '97, the solos on "Live," "Joyous Lake," the amazing solo break on "On the Stairs," the incredible short solo on "The Goose is Loose" (!) etc etc -- your contributions to jazz guitar in my ears are without equal. We are all really lucky that you made your comeback!

Pat,
Was at both shows last night (your final night at Jazz Alley, Sun. 2/24), as well as the guitar clinic on Saturday. You keep raising the bar for all of us, and obviously for yourself. Incredible, astounding music, even better than last time you were at the Alley, I thought. I got to meet you, a wonderful moment for a fan of over thirty years, and a player for nearly forty now. As I mentioned to you at the bar, your chromatic octave displacement information form the clinic was a revelation to me, and two days later, all sorts of things are unfolding as a result of it. Thanks.
Another wonderful result of this trip was that I was able to turn on four or five of my own students to you--they came down, saw the trio, and were completely blown away, despite the fact that I honestly tried to prepare them for the brilliance they were about to witness. I've been getting phonecalls and emails all morning from these folks, stuttering and sputtering, about the shows, your playing, Joey's and Byron's playing, the interactions, etc.
Best of luck in the Grammy nominations. You've had my vote ever since I first heard "El Hombre". See you next trip!

Thankyou Pat for your elegant and masterful guitar playing. I am truley inspired by your "feel" for rhythm,(i.e.,"Live at Yoshi's)and the depth of dynamics and harmonic vocabulary on your lead work! More Live albums, please!

Pat,
I'm a transplanted Philly guitarist, studied at Sandole Studios, then with Sonny Troy (and with you, via your recordings!) Just wanted to say that you are a long-time influence on my playing, and always love listening to you. Any plans to visit San Diego?

Dear Pat:
I caught your opening set at Jazz Alley in Seattle last night with a buddy of mine who has played jazz guitar over the years and absolutely worships you!
Well, despite the fact it was your opening set (getting warmed up) and that the sound guy was not doing your organist any favors, I was blown away by you!
I've heard several recordings you've done over the years, and believe me, I dig "The Velvet Hammer," too, but seeing you walk up on stage, you looked so together and you stood up with your guitar the whole set (I liked that approach!) and listening to your rhythm and solo prowess....I'm floored by you.
I really dug "Twisted Blues" but frankly I liked the entire set song list -- "Oleo" was the perfect capper in a way as I could tell you were building into your intensity and flow...wish I didn't have to catch a ferry home last night because I bet you all burned on the second set....I know my guitarist friend (who has seen you several times) will be back; maybe tonight....
Anynow, I know a little of the amazing story of your comeback in the jazz world, and wanted to say you're a true class act and more than a survivor; you're a jazz hero!
Warm regards,
Peter Hurme

Clarification: The "quasi-smooth-jazz" station doesn't play you as I recall -- the Bellevue station is another station.

Pat, I finally heard you on FM radio in Seattle!!! While this may seem a trifle, for some reason I have can't recall any airplay here. One of the stations seems to have given themselves over to quasi-smooth-jazz (nothing to disrupt the nerves in other words). The Bellevue College station played "Outrider" this morning and did a ticket giveaway. Anyway, looking forward to your Seattle shows; you damn near blew the roof off the place last time. It was so enthusiastic it reminded me of the energy at a Husky football game!

I couldn't get you by phone. Wanted to wish you joy over the Grammy nominations. You know that you and yours are always welcome to come visit us in New Mexico. (Why not play the TAOS Jazz festival or Solarfest if either one can coincide with your schedule?)
P.S. Did you ever get together with Chick? or Peter T?

Dear Pat, Thank you and Jim for your performance at the Juvenile Diabetes benefit. What you said about music being a healing force made my wife and I think about our daughter who is in her fourth year of college, studying Music Therapy. She has a gift in reaching young children through music. We are uplifted as a result of this special evening.
Thank you, Phillip and Carol.

Hi Pat, I'm an aspiriring jazz guitarist from around Philly. I'm only sixteen and I've only been playing for a few years but I listen to you and Wes Montgomery all the time and I just can't get over how GOOD you are!! I play in my high school's jazz band and I'm trying to figure out how to solo as ridiculously good as you do. I haven't seen you live (you have to be over 18, or maybe 21, to get into the Tin Angel), so please play at an all-ages venue soon!! Thanks for inspiring me.

Pat,I just want to thank you and tell your readers what a great concert you and Jim put on for the Juvenile Diabetes Benefit. You played longer than expected and left us all with so much.Needless to say that as soon as we got home,I started practicing! It was great to talk with you, too. You are a generous spirit and an inspiring soul. With all of the immense technique and knowledge you have, you still put heart and soul first because you have so much to say and share with your listeners.....that is pretty amazing and not a given with all virtuosos. Many thanks for an unforgetable experience. We'll see you around.Peace,Dave

Pat,
I had the great fortune of catching your last set at Iridium last Saturday. I was a fan before that set, but I would like to say you truly inspired me that night. The interplay and your generous leadership let the entire trio get in the zone. I don't know if you could feel the audience move on the journey. It must be great playing with such fluid players. I can't say enough about the interplay. You all knocked me out. The groove on "Sunny" was joyous. I look forward to seeing you again.
