Dear Pat, although we have never met before, you have been the single most important influence for my development as a player since I started to listen to your music in the mid-seventies. So I am very thankful for the opportunity to be able to finally meet you in person when you´ll be coming to Cologne, Germany on March 8th to play w/ the WDR Big Band. As their new staff guitarist I feel it is incredible Karma for me to start my contract w/ the Big Band just two days after your concert here in Cologne. I wish you all the best and send you my love ! yours, Paul Shigihara

I want to express my deep love for the music of Pat Martino. I find it hard to put my feelings into words. It is hard to talk about music anyway, and then I'm not even a native speaker. My feelings when listening to Pat's music and playing are very strong ones, they come from somewhere very deep down in myself. It is as if Pat manages to reach into my subconsciousness, gaining some- thing like a resonance-effect. When I listen to his music, I feel at home. (Home here is to be understood rather in a transcendental way.) Thank you for all this, Pat, my deepest affection and admiration for you and your music! Markus.

Pat, I was sorry to hear that you were taken ill. I spoke today with our mutual friend Abe Rivera, who tells me that you are home and improving. My very best wishes to you for a continued speedy recovery and a rebound to make your recording date in Germany. Your friend, Scott Gordon P.S. We'd love to have you back out here on the West Coast!

Pat, Years ago, my guitar-playing brother brought home Consciousness, and it was like a revelation. then LIVE. Then EXIT. JOYOUS LAKE. I love playing STONE BLUE in my car all these years later, you're still an amazing influence. Your mastery of the guitar reminds me of Bill Evans' mastery of the piano, you both KNOW your chosen instruments backwards and forwards, and can play anything in any key. Did you ever meet Bill Evans, and do you consider him an influence at all? Bright moments, Greg

I just want to ask you about the message you wrote on the guestbook back in Feb.'98.(Feb.25'98) Actually I received a same kind of a mail from one of my best friends, but I just ignored it. You wrote in your comment that it was something you felt was worthy to share with everyone. Is this still what you feel about so-called "Good Luck Chain Mail"? You know you've been a God-being to me,so please guide me and let me know how I should treat and regard these stuffs. Love and Respects

Dear Pat, I'm an italian fan of yours. Once I share with you a great love for he guitar, now I share also another thing: last summer I was assaulted by a rare and severe illness in my brain. After some months of fear and pain in the hospital now I'm almost pretty well; recovery is slow but constant, and no damages seem to remain. Love and faith have been the only forces; and when you have such an experience... well you see the world from a different perspective. I hope I will be fortunate to see you in concert in Italy, we have a bunch of good summer jazz festivals, one of them is here in Genoa. It would be great! I'm really happy that there is a growing interest in your music (many of your sessions both as a leader and sideman are seeing the light on CD at last!), and I buy everything you have done. Ciao Pat, you are truly one of the greatest. Your friend Enzo.

P.S. ............ Art, of these particular virtues; as well as all of the others the most valuable of them all is LOVE itself.

Dear Art,....... I'd be happy to share some ideas regarding recovery with you. In my personal experience recovery itself has'nt remained limited to health related events alone; although they have taken place more than once. One of the most demanding forms of "addiction" suffered from a very early age in my life was with the Guitar itself; complicated enormously by the nature of the music business. Fortunately, after a few decades of a survival of my own extensive confrontations with it; (which I refuse to refer to as mistakes) as optimistically as possible it began to become clearer to me that just like the guitar, many other qualities of life could be perceived as instruments also. And because of these particular concerns the guitar itself became neutral to me; no more than a blessing to be substantially beneficial in countless ways; as well as the music industry; ...... all as instruments of greater purpose. In the light of these concerns recovery itself also became a formidable instrument; resulting in such things as temperance; endurance; patience; humility; etc. The neutrality of the experience itself remains essential under any conditions and will always be the result of decisions that remain encased within Faith; Hope and Charity.

Hi Pat: I hope that you are making a full recovery from your illness your miraculous recovery from the effects of losing your memory perhaps you can give some insight on how the early years of your your career impacted your relationships...I still remember the interview that you gave on Creative Force about how your perspective about life has changed because of your near death experience. So many of us men are so pre-occupied by our goals ambitions and dreams that they have a negative impact on our significant others. can you elaborate on this and the lessons that you have learned. God Bless You Art

Dear Pat, Greetings to my friend in Christ. I hope and pray that your health is geting close to 100%. Do you think that "Four Dimensions," recorded with Don Patterson will ever be released again. Years ago I lent that album to a friend of mine and all I got back was the cover. It was one of my favorite albums. I see that there are others that you did with Don Patterson, that I don't have, that are now re-released. Trusting in the Lord that I will see you soon. God Bless you & Love, Peace, Health, & Happiness! Yours in Christ, Mike

Hi Pat, my name is Eric. I also like to be know as the Groovy Raccoon to musician friends of mine. I play the guitar and love to record stuffs that I do. I used to be a rock/heavy metal kind of musicain. But I got mellower as time goes by. Couple of years back I was into fusion stuffs and I was heavily into a band called UZEB which sadly had broken up long before I discovered them..... Last July, my friend/mentor, Clinton Carnegie loan me "We'll be together again" and I was really ..... like...er..WOW! It's like you were speaking to me! You know what I mean?! Especially on "You don't know what love is"! Pat, You are there, man! After listening to you, I just have to get myself an arch top hollow body jazz axe! I'm crazy about the Epiphone Joe Pass model. It's a blonde one not sunburst. Have you ever seen before? What do you think? It's got a nice comfy hollow body that is slightly scaled down. Comfy for me because it fit me as I have a small body myself... the other thing I like about it is that it's affordable, know what I mean?! Nowadays, the price range of a nice decent hollowed body jazz axes price starts at expensive and it goes up from there onwards to a person's whole live savings.... Oh well, enough said. I don't wanna be taking up much of your time reading this stuff from me for you maybe in the mist of something or what... Best regards to you, Pat! - Groovy Raccoon. 12th Feb 1999.

Dear Mr. Martino, I would like to thank you for the inspiration you have given me through your music and philosophies. I finally had the opportunity to see you perform this past November at The Keswick Theater, and I was amazed. Being based in southern New Jersey,I am only 15 minutes from Philadelphia as I was wondering, knowing that you are a busy man, if it will be possible to arrange for a guitar lesson? I have/am studied with JOE FEDERICO who was also a student of DENNIS SANDOLE, and I have also studied with DENIS DIBLASIO while I was in college. Until then, God bless

1999/2/5 Dear Pat I've been a hidden admirer of you for many years so I'm glad to get your recent quantity of CD works and also twice live tours in JAPAN;(I remember your polite shake-hands after stage and giving me your signature down to my "FOOTPRINTS" jacket in the greenroom of ON AIR EAST,Shibuya) I am a TV worker, however, my ancestors have been SHINTO priests (Japanese old religion)from the 11th century for about 25 generations. My family and I have been studying many articles between JAPANESE and old CHINA/INDIA religious problems like the IN-YO-GOGYO method and the map of 64-KE; It's similar to your octagonal CHART. Sorry I don't know what this academical terms transrate in ENGRISH, but I'm sure you can imagine this concept sounds good to me. I AM interested in your cosmic philosophy as well as playing the music and want more data from your musical performances. Since I have been adding to your guestbook, after your illness, I have met other Christians who are also praying for you and some have also e-mailed me, thus I have found some new friends to share my Christianity and music with. At birdland i had a great time listing to your great band play your great music!Eric Alexander has to be one of the best new sax players I've heard, andKenwood is truly the most melodic drummers out there today! the first set was so good I had to stay for the second set. too bad some drunk had to spoil the set by getting in front of the stage as a self appointed conductor!! Thank God the police came in and arrested the bum. I felt very bad for your band members had to go through that shit!!
