Dear Mr. Martino: Hello it is Germán and Sebástian from chile again, thanks very much for your E-mail answer. I, German , have studied Jazz Guitar for some years, like a very enyoided hobby, with chilean guitar teachers. My last teacher is a chilean who lived and played in Manhattan for many years, but unfortunately he could not continue with me due to a big sickness, and he showed me a different way of teaching and improvising. Now I want to keep studying!. I would like to know if you think it is possible and if it would be good for me to take classes throught E-mail and mailed tapes with an experienced american teacher. My tendancy of playing is aimed toward your way of playing. I also listen to: Joe Pass, Herb Hellis , Barney Kessel,Wes Montgomery, Howard Alden and others that play in this way; besides the great masters of jazz ( Davis, Ellington , Parker , Coltrane , etc ). So, I would like to know if you make a guitar lessons, and I would like to know you can be my teacher or if you can recomend anyone for me using this same system ( E-mail and Mailed tapes ). Hoping to see and talk with you the 21st January in Birdland, Sincerely and happy new year Germán

Any suggestions for building dexterity and speed other than playing scales? I am collecting some of your old recordings on CD. I had to sell the ones I bought in the 70's to finance a move the the West Coast. I always enjoy your playing. JT

Dear Mr. Martino: What a great honor just to say hello to such a great artist! I've been listening to your music for over twenty years, still amazes me as if it was the first day. "As time goes by", it only becomes more apparent that true art remains in time and space. Evolution, as well as acquired knowledge, just re-affirms these thoughts. I hope I can catch you playing live sometime. Wishing you a well being life, sincerely yours, Ivan Maraver. San juan Puerto Rico.

Hi Pat! As a budding guitarist that has finally got the five G minor patterns in all 12 keys, I'd like to say thank you very much for your input into this persons journey into the single note line. Your patterns are unique creatures and in fact, the only patterns of somebody else's that I've learned. I've just started a journey into Slominsky and having trouble understanding the picture. Still, that's half the fun hey! Good wishes, Theresa

Dear Mr. Martino. Our names are Germán Zegers and Sebástian di Girolamo, we are two architects living and working in Santiago, Chile, South America. We love Jazz and specially we prefered to listen to the great masters of Jazz, where of course we include you as of our favorites. I, Germán, play the guitar and my partner Sebástian plays the tenor saxophon. So I have a big brunch of your records and books in which I have used to study(Linear Expressions). For me your are the biggest living guitar player today. We are planning to go to New York from Chile Specially to see you play in Birdland January 21-23 and we would really really like to know if there would be a possibility to have a chance to speak with you. Our best wishes in these Hollidays. Germán and Sebástian P.S. It would make us very happy to receive an E-mail from You.

Hello Pat, You may not remember me it has only been once that I was ever in your house for a guitar lesson. In fact, I came from Long Island with a mutual friend, Mr. Stan Wright. I can still remember your words of advice after 15 years. You said "The guitar is a fork, when I'm done eating at the table, I leave it at the table." Thank you Pat. I wish you the best in life. Thank you for adding enjoyment to mine. Deric Tallman

Hi Pat, Cliff in Thailand again. I forgot to mention in my E to you yesterday, in May '97 I suffered a severe concussion in a motorcycle accident in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. Had retrograde amnesia over one month and still have trouble with data retrieval, dizziness, vertigo. I was worried I had forgotten Japanese which I speak fluently having lived there 20+ years. Music has helped in process of recovery and I've been on an endless tour since March 98 year, mostly performing outdoor concerts near Laotian /Cambodia border areas with top ranked singer from that area, a lady named JINTARA PUNLARP. It'a a huge gypsy traveling caravan affair, over 100 performers, 40 female dancers, 10 singers, 10 comedians, 10 piece band, power generator trucks, even the sheet metal walls that are used to erect each night's outdor 'venue' are carried in trucks, a completely mobile unit. We sleep on floors in Thai temples,or outside in fields, bathe from well water, hunt and eat insects considered delacacies. A very humbling experience indeed. And I am the first foreigner to enter this cultural field called MORLAM. Also forgot to write I too was born Aug 25 (1951). Into the light, cliffedge

I recently graduated from ROWAN UNIVERSITY, were I recieved a degree in Music Education/Performance on Classical Guitar. While attending Rowan I've had a chance to experience some teaching from Dennis Diblasio and many other Jazz faculty staff members. I also have studied an am still currently studying w/ A jazz guitarist, JOSEPH FEDERICO, who actually studied with Dennis Sandole. Since Philadelphia isn't that far away and I travel there once in awhile, I was wondering if I could schedule a lesson with you. As I am a teacher myself, I encourage my students not only to study with me, but seek knowledge from other players also. I hope to hear from you. Thanks Pat, and GOD bless.

Hello Pat, I recall in early 70's I contacted you from Los Angeles. You had replied to a letter I wrote you and included your tel number. I phoned, we spoke, then met when you played the Lighthouse in Hermosa Beach. Since then my destiny has taken me far - over 20 years in Japan, recently 2 years in Cambodia, now 1 year in Thailand where I am with the #1 ranked singer of Thai/Lao tian music called MORLAM. I'm the only foreigner to have entered this musical /cultural world and I'm having a great time, concerts nightly, mostly in remote outdoor locations way out near Laotian /Cambodian border. Will send you sample tapes of this genre, it's amazing. I recently saw one of your later CD's and noticed you used Delmar on it. I haven't seen him in years, since the Bush Rock days. Please let me know how I can contact him. E me at cliffcam (at) hotmail.com URL http://home.earthlink.net/~cliffedge warm regards

Dear Pat, I wonder if you have ever considered creating an all solo guitar project. I enjoy a lot of your music, and one of my favorite all time cuts is "Passata for Guitar" from the Consciousness album. There is something very deep about that cut. And the other solo cuts you have done are very beautiful...Both sides Now, Country Road, and that long one which i believe is on Starbright...I can't remember the name of the cut...anyways, I just want to tell you how much I would love to have an all solo guitar album...the scant amount of solo cuts are so good...it seems there could be much more...Thank you so much your music...it has really enriched my life...Jory Kahn

Pat, you are god. I just began listening to your music, along with exporing your theoretical concepts. Being a guitar player, I've done my best to stay away from listening to the guitar too much. I've been checking out a lot of trane. Your style is that which I've been looking for. Though there are many amazing player on record, your lines have something inexpressable in words. Thank you. Write me. Thank you.
