I'm so inspired by what You said about keeping in touch with your favorite toy, the guitar. The things You say all make perfect sense to me, and they are a big help on many levels.

Happy Milestone Birthday, Pat!
Wish circumstances allowed me to see you every time you play New York. For now, the many transcendent memories will have to do. Haven't had a lesson with you since the last 'seventies, but you'll always be my Teacher. And you know what? At long last, the lessons are starting to "take"!
Love also from Mom,
Tony

Happy birthday, Pat! My birthday ends in a zero this year too; I'm a decade behind you in terms of age but light years when it comes to playing the guitar. It was great to have you in St. Louis in 2002 after 25-year absence and then again in 2003; we hope that you can visit us again before too long. It seems like fusion was the last widely-accepted trend to catch on in jazz, and here we are 35 years later still waiting for the next direction. I would've thought that if "world music" was the answer, it surely would've taken off by now. As a composer and thoughtful observer, what's your take on the long-term direction of jazz?

Happy Birthday Pat. I am just back from New Mexico. Remember the Hong Kong kid who couldnt speak in front of you in the restaurant in Connecticut with Barry and James? In the trip i have been thinking about your 4 seasons theory on guitar, and i figure that guitar beyond being a 4x3 and 3x4 instrument, it is also 1x12 2x6 and 6x2 instrument, it is totally based on the intervallic property of guitar. For instance, intervals with augmented 4ths repeat itself every augmented 4th and within the repetition there are 6 different keys. It is just the matter of finding a cyclic interval. Please keep in touch, and may the most beautiful things in life be with you always.

Pat, I've been a fan of yours since the early seventies. I recently started playing my guitar again since retiring from the U.S. Army last year. I,m back to using the stone pick they used to advertise that you were using. I think they called it the Min'd pick. Where, if possible can I locate another one? I'm down to the last stone! I hope you are in good health and that you continue to play the music for many more years. Paul

Mr Martino, I just saw your show friday August 20th, 10:00 pm show. It was the best performance I personally have ever seen on guitar... I have been looking for a new amplifier, and had seen a website with a picture of you playing out of a clarius 1R with two Raezers edge 12 in speakers.. When I saw you this past weekend, and you were playing through that rig, with the Black Martino edition Gibson... I was completely SOLD! Needless to say, I have ordered the Clarius1r, and a 1 12 cab to go with it.. Again,, Thank you for the Beautiful Music.... And can't wait to catch up with seeing you again!

Hi Pat. Sorry it's taken me so long, but we spoke at the World Guitar Congress about me hopefully studying with you someday. It meant a lot that you took the time to speak with whoever wanted to talk, and your clinics and performance were both wonderful and inspiring. Thank you for that. I'd like to discuss things further, if you'd like to email, and hope to meet you again. Until then, thank you for letting us know that there is no separation between music and the rest of our lives.

Pat, I am here listening the "The Visit" for the billionth time. "What Are You Doing..." is perfecto. Bobby Rose had the best seat in the house, what a treat. I would be really excited to hear a solo guitar record from you. Throughout the years we have been given excellent tunes like "Passata On Guitar" and "Country Roads". What are the chances of a record like that? By the way you are huge in New Orleans you should get a gig at Snug Harbor. SOLD OUT, NO DOUBT.

Hello from Don Plue. I would like to thank you for your graciousness and attention that you gave to me when I saw you at the Zanzibar. Each time I see you perform it is an event and a lesson in the enduring spirit and amazing virtuosity of an incredibly creative mind. Your rendition of "crescent" was awe inspiring and I fully appreciate all the time you have given me. God bless you and yours. Sincerely, Don Plue

Dear Pat: Funny story, I recently typed my own name in on Google just to see what would turn up and I found a posting I made on your guest book in October 1997 when I was 14 and had been playing the guitar 8 months. My Dad had turned me onto your music, which I loved, and you had responded to my comments online, though I don't think I ever realized it. It's interesting that since then the guitar has led me to play at Lincoln Center, study at Berklee for a year with Mick Goodrick, Wayne Krantz and a zillion other great musicians, and shaped my life. It was just amazing to see where the posting I made almost 8 years ago and reflect on where I am today because of the guitar. Thanks so much for your wonderful music, spirit, and dedication.

I guess I just wanted to say hi and thanks for being such an incredible player, inspiration, and catalyst for musical hunger and learning. Hi Pat: Just to say hello from Toluca Mexico, One of my favorite pleasures on sunday evenings is watching the State of Mexico moutains on a clear day through the window, having a glass of good Chilean Merlot or Cabernet, and listening to Pat Martino records. I'm still working on some lines from the Linear Expressions book, very enjoyable. Although I know that latin American economies make it very difficult for an artist of your stature to tour here ,well, at least we have the recorded music I'm in charge of the jazz Studies program at the State of Mexico conservatory and your music has been a great source of inspiration for over 27 years. I can proudly call a myself a jazz guitarist,a vocation decision that was clearly made after listening to your version of "Impressions" . Thanks for all the great music and wow Think Tank sounds very nice,Keep up the good work as they say Luis Octavio Cervantes
