A café in Orvieto, 12/30/01, about 8 PM. Joey and Byron are about to leave the place. As he walks up the stairs, Byron Landham reads: "'Pat Martino' - why do you have his name on your bag?" - My answer: "Because I dig him so bad, that's why." A closer look revealed to him that I had turned a normal "Eastpak" bag into a "Pat Martino - East!" bag (because "East!" is the album that immediately turned me into a Pat Martino fan, eight years ago). - After your set that night in Orvieto (all the ******* you can possibly give - I KNEW that it would be worthwhile to cross the Alpes just to hear that trio !!!!!), I talked to Byron again. He told me that you had dug my idea. And today, of course, I write to wish you HAPPY BIRTHDAY. Thank you so much for ALL the music. I hope you come back to Europe next year.
Warmest regards

Munich, Germany - Sunday, August 25, 2002 at 16:18:20 (EDT)Pat, Ney Mello referred me to you. Ney thought that you might be interested in a database program I developed. It generates every string permutation possible for 4, 5, 6 and 7 string inst's. The string permutations range from 2-6 strings and 1-4 notes per string. I developed the database because of a rut I was in with exercises I was doing on my Twanger (www.twanger.com). It was originally designed for bass since I'm a bass player but now it can be used for any string inst. If you would like to review a sample of some of the exercises please email me.

New Orleans, LA USA - Friday, August 16, 2002 at 16:51:31 (EDT)Listening to Pat Martino brings memories of another great guitarist, Harry Leahey of the central Jersey Area. These two guitarists always brought the level of playing in groups to great heights. I worked with Harry Leahey and would have always loved to work with Mr. Martino. Planning to hear him at Birdland in August. Wish it was with Joey DeFrancesco. Pat burns on the guitar, not only with technique but notes which are the most important of any musician. It is only too bad young rock guitarists have not discovered him. If they have then they should give jazz a chance...

West Caldwell, NJ USA - Thursday, August 15, 2002 at 15:26:46 (EDT)Dear Mr. Martino,
I was wondering how much it would cost for you to do a guitar clinic at Wayne State University Detroit,MIchigan. Right now my school is low on funds so I'm trying to be realistic but at the same time optimistic. If you are interested please contact my guitar professor Steven Carryer; you can contact him at scarryer (at) earthlink.net.
You are my favorite guitarist of all time and it'd be such a highlight of my life to have you be at my school.Maybe we can work something out.???
Thank you for all the great music

Detroit, MI - Monday, August 12, 2002 at 22:41:46 (EDT)Hi Pat,first of all I would really like to apologize for calling your home a couple of months ago and boldly asking to arrange a private guitar lesson with you.I left a message on your answering machine, and was under the naive assumption that you might actually call me back.I was given your number some time ago through gino white, who at that time was staying with phil fallo. He felt that I was a sincere and intelligent enough of a human being to have your number.I don't know what your relationship is or ever was with gino, but please do not hold him accountable.Being a virgo myself,I understand how you must have felt your privacy and sacred home space was invaded upon hearing my message.Once again I deeply apologize, and did not mean to offend you.I assure you that I have not and will not share your number with anyone.I just hope that this incident has not spoiled the possibility of any genuine future interaction.
Peace with higher consciousness

Valbonne, France - Thursday, August 08, 2002 at 05:47:19 (EDT)Hey Pat,
Really dig your playing and am totally blown away by "Live at Yoshis". I remeber my music teacher telling me how he was hanging with John Abercrombie, and my teacher asked him if he was into Martino. Abercrombie looked at him as if he ws from the moon and said "What are you talking about ? Who doesn't like Martino ?"
Anyways, I would be great if you could play in Boston sometime at one of our many jazz clubs. I know plenty of people who would love for that to happen. Cheers.

rotterdam, netherlands - Sunday, August 04, 2002 at 12:06:59 (EDT)Hello Pat, I just got a copy of Live at Yoshi’s.
Alls I can say is WOW! It is the most swingiest CD
I have heard in a long time .It was great to hear you
playing with such great musicians, Billy and Joey.
I really loved the interchange between you and drummer
Billy Hart. I feel I got to hear what a great B3 band from
back in the 60' sounded like. I was a surprised
that there seemed to be none of your classic reverb on your
guitar. Why the change? I’ve really loved that sound you
had on previous CDs (Both Sides Know/The Maker). Do you prefer a dry sound when playing in this style ? Also why do the some of the drums seem to be missing at times. Is this because it was a live recording ? I’m sure making a live CD must a lot harder than a studio CD.I have all your CDs and I can’t wait to get the next one. Thanks for all the years of great music, Tim Murphy
