Dear Pat,
Thanks for your marvelous contribution to jazz and music at large!
Some time ago I read about some of your philosophical considerations on the subject and thought it most interesting - today I found the hexagrams on your site and look forward to a relaxing evening of thoughtful awakenings on the subject.
Also, I was wondering if you could tell me what guitar you were using to get the great tone on "Comin and Goin" (i.e. Blue Bossa) Sounds alot like an L-5 or L-4? This is driving me nuts! Please advise if possible -
With appreciation,
Pat Boyer

Dear Pat I, like many others, am impressed by the music you have created. One of the essential aspects is that while it is made possible by a great technical facility that
is the means not an end unlike certain egoistic rock guitarists whose names would take too much space. There are always tracks which have an indefinable magic. I am always
coming back to hear What are you doing the rest of your life. There is a flow on that which I also hear on Barney Kessel's Easy To Be Hard which was on his Hair/Aquarius
album - which the critics say is not jazz. Well it's MUSIC.
Thanks to the spirit responsible for yours and Barney's and all the 'greats' MUSIC. All the best. Chris Hill.

Pat, I bought your "Live" album over twenty years ago while in college. After a ten year hiatus, I finally bought a new axe and got back into my playing jazz. Since the "Live" album is such a quintessential recording, are you going to perhaps do a recording with Joey DeFrancesco and Billy Hart? With those guys you must hit the stratosphere. I would definitely put such a recording at the top of my purchase list. Jim

Dear Ryan, ..... thanks so much for your support; I really appreciate. As to any type of advice; its really difficult to come to an answer without knowing more about the conditions; but you might want to consider this; ....... formal education is much like "set time" in computer terms; as opposed to street learning, which can be seen as "real time". Both are priceless; depending on commitment. My advice is to stay where you are until you've absorbed as much as possible in every way. If at that time you'd like to experience its opposite for greater reason.......... do it with the power of belief!

Pat, I am a loyal fan and supporter of your music. You have captured some of the most intense and heavenly sounds that jazz will ever know. Your rendition of "Sunny" is undoubtedly the most amazing tune I've heard in all of my days. I just bought your book "Linear Expressions" it's got some really good stuff in it regardless of what level you play at. What interests me the most is your outlook on music and life. I am a guitarist studying jazz in college and I'm torn between whether I should stay or would first hand experience help me more-cause up until now thats all I've had and I've progressed decently. So any advice you have would be sincerely appreciated. if not you will still remain an inspiration to me and every other aspiring jazz musician on this earth.

Phil, ....... sorry that did'nt happen. At that time there were a number of European engagements that also failed to solidify. As far as the Master Class in France, quite a number of individuals applied but unfortunately some of them failed to send their advance and that made it impossible to go forward with all of the production costs that were necessary. Ed Russell would like to try again next year, and hopefully it will be successful. I'll be looking forward to it.

Pat - I don't know if you read these, but if you do... I just moved to Philadelphia and I am a HUGE fan of yours. I heard that you sometimes give guitar lessons. I am a semi-pro guitarist, been playing for 15+ years and I would be incredibly honored if I could just have one lesson with you. Is there any chance???
Either way, is there any way to get on a mailing list to find out when youare playing in Philly as I have heard you sometimes do. Please let me know. I can be reached at the email above.

I'm pleased to read how many people love you and your music. I have been a huge fan of your playing ever since I heard my first two C.D's.of yours;"Joyous Lake" and "Consciousness"in 1976. I have since purchased anything with your name on it; books, videos or recordings and have tried to tell all my students about you. Glad to see Steve MacKay has written to you and how much of an impression you made on him. I can assure you everyone I introduce to you and your playing is more than impressed. THANK YOU !!!!!for all your wonderful playing and words of wisdom on you videos and album covers. You are indeed one of my very favourite guitarists and musicians and I thank God you are alive and well. God bless you and may you continue to prosper and bless and inspire all who see and hear you.
Will you be coming to Australia in the near future?
THANK YOU,THANK YOU,THANK YOU for your inspirational playing, for your marvellous tone and phrasing !!!!!!!!

Pat,
It is an unusual experience having to introduce myself through this type of medium(that's what is so nice about the WEB). I first heard of you through Dennis Sandole who I (and I believe you as well some time prior ) studied with for a number of years in the early 70s. Your style of play has had deep and lasting impression on me. I love the pulse and attack of your playing - it's powerful. While not playing professionally(persued a technical career) any more, I'm still actively playing and writing down ideas. As most serious players come to realize, you never really reach the full potential. Your always striving even groping to get to that next level of expression. We'll if there is ever an opportunity to meet, maybe we can share experiences and some music. Great talking with you. Hope to hear from you.
All the best,

G'day Pat. I'm about to turn 19 and have been playing the guitar for almost 11 years now. Basically 9 blind years of ear playing and over the last few years I have found Jazz. My teacher happened to play one of your licks over an Aminor chord one day and man . . . . It blew my mind! It was the sound I'd been hearing but never heard! Thankyou! I live in Australia and recently met Mike Stern when he came out! Man you American's must have something in the water to play some damn good! I hope one day I can travel to the states and get some lessons. You are my new guitar hero. Thanks mate. -Steve-

Pat,
I have been a guitar player for 10 years and have been working on jazz for only the last year and a half. You're playing has definitely been one of the reasons I am interested in jazz. I am moving to Boston in the September and wonder if you have any plans to play there soon...or any advice for a guitar player just starting to explore jazz..
anyway, i enjoy your music...roger

Pat,of all your recordings, your work on Willis Jackson's "Bar Wars" is outstanding. Your treatment of "The Breeze and I" is the textbook groove! I had a chance to see you in Vegas back in early eightys at UNLV,but you were unable to make the gig. Kenny Burrell came in to save the day and treated all us "PatFans" to a great pinch hit homer! I hope you find your way back to Vegas someday...thanks for the beauitiful music...Pat in Vegas.

Hello Pat,
I've Been Listening to your recordings ever since my first guitar teacher
turned me onto you in 1979. I did not realize until the return album that you
were having health problems. I'm glad You survived what you had to go through.
You definitely have made a mark in jazz history. Whenever I hear a recording of yours
on the radio whether it's new or something that I'm Not familiar of, I can tell that it's Pat
long before the Dj announces the artists because You Have a distinct sound.
You are my Favorite Jazz Guitarist, hopefully I'll see you perform in Northern California this
year if you don't scheduled anything later in so. California.
