Dear Pat Martino. I've just been through the Linear Expression book. Really great stuff, it really helped me alot. THanks. Hey, there's one thing I've always wondered: when you lost your memory, did you regain it after a while, or did you have to start playin' guitar all over again?

Pat, I was wondering if you might consider releasing the mysterious "Pat Martino" self-titled album from the 60s I see in the discography section? Maybe on your next album you can bring back James Ridl? I like Stone Blue and play it a lot. Thanks, Mike

Dear Pat , I enjoy listening to jazz and your music has been enduring with me the last 23 yrs . I first heard you on record when I was 17 and starting to play a little guitar. It's not unusual to hear the strains of the sounds of your amazing guitar playing through my dental surgery . At least I'm enjoying myself! Its been a while since I have acquired any of your cds. Where can I purchase your latest offering "Well be together again" . I read about it in JGSWA newsletter , it lists the latest cds. I preferably would like to get via the net for convenience . regards Alan

Dear Pat, I am Prasanna,a guitar player from India who plays South Indian classical music on the electric guitar.I have released about seven albums of Indian classical music on the guitar. My CD on Oriental Records 'Guitar-Indian Style' was the only one that was released in America.I am currently studying at the Berklee college of Music in Boston.I have been studying here with Mick Goodrick,Garrison Fewell,Ritchie Hart and others.I have heard several of your records and you are one of the most inspirational guitar players that I have ever heard.Your mastery of the guitar is unquestioned and your intense, spiritual and scholarly outlook comes thro'crystal clear in every note you play.I saw you perform in Boston at the RegattaBar in Spring 1995 and it was an experience I would cherish forever.Ever since I heard Baiyina,I knew you were very deeply interested in Indian classical music and I am looking forward to listening to 'Firedance' which features the great tabla maestro Zakir Hussain with whom I have had the fortune of interacting several times.I would love to send you a CD of mine and would feel honored if you could let me know how I could contact you by phone/US mail.I would also be doubly honored if you could check my web site out at http://www.geocities.com/soho/atrium/5699 whenever you get a chance. My e-mail ID is prasanna76 (at) hotmail.com and my # is 617-267-9581.Thanks a million!

Congrats on your new album Stone Blue. While on vacation here in NY I feel very lucky to have found it at Tower Records. I feel that this is your best album since The Maker, one of my favorate albums of all times! I have had Stone Blue on my CD player none stop and love listening to it while walking around NY. The CD has a real city vibe to it. I do have a problem with the mix though, it seems the tone of your guitar has radically changed. It sounds very processed, not the big round tone that has been your trademark. Also at times it seems your volume is too low. Never the less Stone Blue is an album of great music that I will be listening to for the rest of my life. Again, congratulations on another great album and I am looking foward to your next CD. Longtime Fan

I look forward to meeting you very much.Your recordings have been the biggest inspiration for me in my five years of playing the guitar . When I saw you at IAJE I sat directly in front of you and for that hour I was amazed by your playing and presence on stage. Thank you for the music and thank you for taking out the time to meet a very big fan of yours. Dan Arcamone

Dear Mr. Martino, I am a 15 year old aspiring jazz guitarist from eastern PA, and i really like your music. I recently attended a jazz jam session at a bar/restaurant in Reading, PA. The session was hosted by Tim Price, an excellent tenor saxophonist who said he was your friend. We had a long discussion about your playing and both agreed the "strings" was our favorite album of yours. I would appreciate if you could email me back. I would like to know about future gigs you have in philly (that can be attended by a minor) and also if you are giving any workshops. Thanks a lot Evan

Dear Mr. Martino, I am looking forward to picking up a copy of stone blue, and your next appearence in Phila. I went to H.S. with Johnny Valentino and spent many hours (with guitar in hand) at his home. It was Val who turned me on to your music along with several other jazz artists. In fact, many years ago I purchased a Fender Twin from you. Since Val moved to Cal. we lost touch. If you can provide me with a e-mail address I would appreciate it. I don't get much time to play nowadays and get frustrate d at times. I must think about playing music 100x's a day. I hope to shed with Billy Zaposodi(a great player/friend) after summer vacation. Years ago I studied with Joe Sgro, Sonny Troy, and Joe Federico and still have retained some of what these great teachers have taught me. Living only a few blocks from you, maybe someday we can meet and talk music. It would be an honor. Take care. MT

I've been following your music for 20 years now, when "JOYOUS LAKE" was released in France. My computer has no sound card and no way to play midi files, so I designed a simple format, .RMI files to play tunes on plain MS-DOS. Your fans could ask for MA RDIGRA.RMI for free (and for fun!). As a matter of fact, I've been practicing this song ever since I've heard it, but still have some fingering problems. Could you help me on this? Bye... PS: I long to hear you live, will you come to France one day? < /b>

Pat, I have been a fan of your playing since I was first introduced to you in 1985! My college Jazz teacher, Steve Masakowski, turned me on to your approach to soloing. I teach about 60 students out of my home each week. I always use your approach, that music is bigger than the song. I have quite a few students who are fans of yours, and realize the higher level needed to achieve this Consciousness we call Music! I just want to thank you for your great insight and Tone! If you ever have the time, i would really like to correspond with you! If not, Thanks for your Music and raising my Consciousness! Andrew James Hymel

What a smokin' band...I have enjoyed your work for years, and I have literally been looking and waiting for years for Joyous Lake and Starbright to be re-released on CD. I discovered you about half a year ago, hey I'm only 17 years old, bying your Footprints record, which I loved right from the start. S you have become the guitarist I listen most to in recent days. I love your tone, your note-choices, and you have such an original style, so it's really interesting to listen to your recordings. I still can't get how you learnt to play guitar after the memory loss. That's quite something. The homepa ge is very groovy, by the way. I liked the layout, and everything. Keep up the good work....

I caught your show at the Iridium last year and spoke briefly with you at the break. I expressed my love for your "Joyous Lake" album, and how (in the unique way that music works) it continues to evoke the excitement and passion of of a great time in my life (college). My worn LP is treated like royal plastic! Now comes your latest work reuniting the original cast. In the liner notes you speak of reunion, of connecting the past, present and future in terms of your own creative output. Interestingly, t here is an analogous reception of your work on the part of this listener, connecting emotionally to my past, present and future. Aren't we lucky to have the opportunity to make connections like these? Saying "Thank You" doesn't feel sufficient, but there we are.

On July 7, 1998, I had the good fortune to attend the concert you gave at Skidmore College in Saratoga, NY. Gil Goldstein was on keyboards, Tyrone Brown on bass, and Scott Robinson on drums. During the early 1970s, when I was in college, I bought some of your records, such as The Visit! and Starbright. I listened to them a lot. Later on, when I heard that you were not able to play as the result of your operation, I was very sad. It is difficult to find words adequate to convey how satisfying it was, how good it felt deep inside, to see you playing again. For someone to play with technical facility, based on years of practice and hard work, is one thing. To hear the kind of maturity and musicianship that comes with having struggled with sorrow and rediscovered joy, that is another and altogether rarer thing. It was truly a privilege to hear you play. How would I describe it to someone who was not there? It was truly special. When I was a young boy, a friend of my parents took me to see Andres Segovia play at Carnegie Hall. We sat all the way in the back of the highest balcony, and we could sti ll hear every note clearly. When I was in college, I saw Jim Hall and Ron Carter play at Sweet Basil, a small club in Greenwich Village. We sat only a few feet away, as they played off of each other's ideas with subtlety and originality. Well, that is the sort of evening that I had at Skidmore. It was one of those experiences that you tuck away to remember when things are difficult and you need to remember how wonderful life can be. I was able to take some photographs at the concert, and I would like to be able to send you a print of one in appreciation for that special time. Could you provide an address at which I could mail the print to you? Thanks for all you are doing to bring such enjoyment, not just into my life, but into the lives of many others.
