I loved your lectures at UNT. I'm not a guitar player but I feel the insight you shared is highly relivant to the jazz idiom, regardless of what instrument one plays. Thanks again for your thoughts.

Mr. Martino, I recently attended your clinic at North Texas
and it was different and better than any clinic I've seen here.
Not many musicians have your take on life and music. Here at
North Texas it is a very cut throat environment. I've been
going to school here for 1 and a 1/2 years and I don't think
it is a good program for guitar. It's a big band school.
I've been playing 10 years, but jazz only since I've been at UNT.
I'm a junior here and I don't think this school cares about
new commers to jazz. They want the 18 year olds straigh out
of Jazz High schools so they can put them in the higher lab
bands and look good. They are only interested in the good
players. I realy want to learn and play but I don't think
that this is the right environment. I'm thinking about leaving
and moving to NY to live with my uncle and study privately
with someone and be around the heart of jazz in America.
I need to be honest with myself and figure out what to do.
I'm taking lessons unter a 35 year old teacher's assistant
that just gives me assignments like: reading violin atudes
learning a tune a week. He never gives me insight on music
or the guitar. He could care less about his students. I feel
like I'm on my own here. Many students I talk to feel the same
about lessons with teacher's assistant. If it is going to be
this way I might as well leave. What do you think? I would
like to study with you at some point. How much do you charge?
Would you be interested in taking in a student you don't know
under your wing? I feel like I know you. I don't look up to
or relate to anyone and I feel that I can relate to you.
I'm 23 and need help bad!
NEED HELP! I'm drowning here!

Thanks so much for your inspiring clinics and masterclasses at UNT on April 21st. We cannot thank you enough for your ideas, playing, courage, and your music. Sure would love to do a selective Vulcan mind meld with Pat.
What a musician! As a fan of the hammond organ I'd like to
humbly suggest that Pat look up an Englishman by the name of
Mike Carr, a wonderful jazz musician and hammond organist
extraordinaire. Thanks for the inspiration.

I have been listening to Pat Martino since the early 70's and, with all the re-release activity as of late on Jazz32, I was wondering if anyone knows of any plans to release his two forays into fusion on Warner Brothers, Starbright and Joyous Lake. I'd sure love to see those out on CD!!
Thanks, and regards,

Hi,Pat!
My name is justin and I am 16 and have been playing guitar for 5 years. I discovered your music almost a year ago, although i had been into much jazz before then. I soon went out and bought your Creative Force videos. They've helped a lot , thanks. My brother, a bassist, plays ina band with a former student of yours, Ian Sherer. They're called the Heavies and play jazz, of course. Anyway, I was wondering if you'd take the time to send me any playing tips or short lesson. I'm sure I'd greatly benefit from anything

Pat,
I was playing your records on KJAZ San Francisco when
they were new in 1967! I'm including "Along Came Betty"
in my June inflight program for Singapore Airlines. I also
work for Concord Records and thanks for your wonderful
liner notes on Jimmy Bruno's "Like That". It's nice that
after all these years and tribulations we're all still
hangin' in there!

Hi Pat--been listening to your music since the 70's, your playing as geat now as ever.
The Maker is such a strong album, your compostions and musical concepts knock me out.
My question to you is what's the name of the ornate guitar I sometimes see you pictured with
I see kevin Eubanks play one on the leno show as well.

I am sorry that I cannot give a very good feedback about Pat, but I am new in the jazz world... I am a guitarrist studying in San German's Department of music, Universidad Interamericana de Puerto Rico.
In the last jazz guitar class that I had with Dr. Jacques Landry I saw my first Pat Martino's video whish name I can't recall, but it gave me a terrible but good insight in what it is guitar jazz music. I'm looking forward to have the collection of his recordings, along with Joe Pass' ones. Seeing that video was an orgasmic experience...

Sorry I can't leave an e-mail address, I'm kind of new to
this computer stuff, and I don't know what it is! I teach
guitar in N.E. Philly. Your concept is really cool. I'm trying to develope improved methods on teaching four note chords (four strings;all combinations). I'm concentrating
my work into a book on chord-melody aproaches and techniqhes. There are some good gigs happening downtown.
Larry McKenna is at Chris' at 15th and (I think)Sansom every friday night. After that, it's "head for N.Y."
Have you read any books on Quantum Physics?
Anyway, take care.

I linked your site on it. However, since I donot know the

Mr Martino:
I have fond memories of your albums "Consciousness" (the one with Eric Kloss)
and "Exit", from the early-to-mid seventies. My musical tastes have since
changed markedly. Still, the newer releases ("The Maker" and "Both sides now")
were to my likance too - well, a bit.
